The Hensall-based company which ships 300 lb. ice blocks and finished ice carvings all over the world, has come up with an elabo- rate water recycling sys- tem. "Our whole business is water," says Julian Bayley, vice- president of product development. He estimates of the approximate- ly 12,500 gal- lons of water they use a week, 500 goes down the drain. Waste comes mainly fromscrap ice leftover from from ice sculptures and crackedor cloudy ice blocks. "Our stuff has to be ;100 per cent clear. If it's cloudy we have to throw it away," said Bayley. Bay!ey credits his the company's general manager, for coming up with the idea to recycle their waste water. "We've got to be responsible," said Julian. "We're just one jump ahead trying to: foresee problems... If they are having prob- lems with water in Exeter then it will be here soon." .. "With this new system now nothing goes down the drain." He also credits Dave Passmore, who owns Dave Passmore's Plumbing and Heating, for creating the recy- cling system which uses reverse osmosis. "I told him the problem and he came up with the solution," said Bayley. The recycling process is important now more than ever because business is booming for the family - r -un compa- ny who counts numerous iio.tels, Evian, Coca-Cola and the NHL among =their clien- tele.
