Junior kindergarten to be added to North Easthope Public School By Michele Greene SEAFORTH — The Avon Maitland District School Board will not be making an exception to the rule at North. Easthope Public School' (NEPS). The elementary school north of Stratford offered the early learning pro- gram for kindergarten to Grade 3 students instead of junior kindergarten. This fall, junior kinder- garten will be added to the school and parents asked trustees to keep the younger students in one classroom and have the senior kindergarten stu- dents in their own class- room. All schools in the district with junior kindergarten combine the students of both age lev=y` els in one classroom. Last Tuesday night, trustees turned down the request to separate the age groups and imple- mented blended classes at NEPS. "We met with the- par- ents last week. We taljd about the educational merits of blended classes. We talked about how they learn effectively," said. John Patterson, -Associate Director. He said parents were concerned that the senior. kindergarten students might not get , enough. • attention to prepare for - - Grade 1. "There wasn't totalt agreement. We under- stood their point and they saw our point," he said. t On June 3rd Vote Liberal Vote Lamont "Putting People First" mumwww.rosslamont.com Clinton Office - 7 Albert St. 1-877-454-0844 or 482-8475 www.ontarioliberal.com The people's choice in Huron -Bruce Authorized by the C.F.O. for the Ross Lamont Campaign • sok, SOUTH HURON RECREATION CENTRE SUMMER PROGRAMS '99 WTER AND DISTRICT SWIMMING POOL Registration Wednesday, June 9 7:00-8:30 p.m, - South Huron Rec Centre • **Bronze Cross, Bronze Medallion, Aqualeaders* * Please note revised dates for courses July 7, 8 and 9 - evening July,10 & 11 (9 aim. - 9 p.m.) .
