Junior kindergarten to be added
to North Easthope Public School
By Michele Greene
SEAFORTH — The Avon
Maitland District School
Board will not be making
an exception to the rule
at North. Easthope Public
School' (NEPS).
The elementary school
north of Stratford offered
the early learning pro-
gram for kindergarten to
Grade 3 students instead
of junior kindergarten.
This fall, junior kinder-
garten will be added to
the school and parents
asked trustees to keep the
younger students in one
classroom and have the
senior kindergarten stu-
dents in their own class-
room. All schools in the
district with junior
kindergarten combine the
students of both age lev=y`
els in one classroom.
Last Tuesday night,
trustees turned down the
request to separate the
age groups and imple-
mented blended classes
at NEPS.
"We met with the- par-
ents last week. We taljd
about the educational
merits of blended classes.
We talked about how they
learn effectively," said.
John Patterson, -Associate
Director.
He said parents were
concerned that the senior.
kindergarten students
might not get , enough.
• attention to prepare for
- - Grade 1.
"There wasn't totalt
agreement. We under-
stood their point and they
saw our point," he said.
