in Hensall

HENSALL - Community organizations in the Village
of Hensall and area are hosting a Family Dinner in
conjunction with the International Year of Older
Persons. The event is set for June 25 at the Hensall
Community Centre. Doors open at 5 p.m. with displays
available for viewing at this time. Entertainment will
begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner, catered by Pineridge BBQ,
Hensall, will be served at 6 p.m. Following dinner,
Pirie Mitchell of the Hensall United Church will be the
guest speaker. Dessert is being provided by Hensall
area organizations (Hensall Legion Ladies Auxiliary,
Carmel Presbyterian Church and Hensall United
Church). The Hensall and Area Horticultural Society is
providing centrepieces for the tables. These will be
given away as door prizes after the meal.
Tickets are available from the Hensall Municipal
Office and organization members. For those in need,
transportation can be arranged by contacting Betty
Simmons (262-2106). This event is for everyone. It is
intended to embrace the inter -generational goals of the
International Year of Older Persons. In addition, the
event is bringing together£inany community groups.
Hensall residents are reminded that tagged garbage
and recyclables should be to the curb by 7 a.m.
(Wednesdays) to ensure collection. Make sure your
blue box is 'tidy'. A sorting guide is available from
Bluewater Recycling Association and the Municipal
Office. Also, residents should note that garbage bag
tags ($2 each) are available from the Municipal Office,
Ron's Health Centre, Charlene's (Sears) and now at
Bob Erb's Garage. Should you require a receipt for
your tag purchase, the tags should be purchased at the
Municipal Office.
Summer is going to be here before you know it! It's
time to check out the Hensall Summer Playground
Program. This is a recreational program for children
aged four to 12 years. The program includes: crafts,
games, sports, special events and much more. The pro-
gram will begin July 19 (please note date). The first
two weeks are afternoons only, but beginning August 3
to 20, the program runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children are
welcome to remain for a supervised lunch time too. A
payment plan is available. Additional information and
registration forms are available from the Hensall
Municipal Office. Also, community service groups are
making financial assistance possible this year. The
Children's Aid Society in Goderich should be contacted
for information and/or a referral.
There is still time to submit a nomination for an
important volunteer in the community. The annual
Volunteer Recognition Awards sponsored by the
Hensall Parks Board will be recognizing one person in
each of the following: Civic Volunteer, Sport Volunteer
and Humanitarian Volunteer. This is the third year
that formal acknowledgement of these important con-
tributions will be made. Please submit nomination by 5
p.m., June 1. Information is available.jrom the

Tree dedication
A tree dedication ceremony at the Exeter Retirement
Home on Friday morning bridged the generations.
Students representing Exeter Public School and
Precious Blood School joined Resident Council
President Rev. Stewart Miner, Mayor Ben
Hoogenboom, Jeanne Kading and Lynn Siddall, RPN to
dedicate 1999 as the Year of the Older Person.
Members of the Ontario Residential Care Association
across Ontario were planting trees Friday.

HENSALL Hensall Carmel Presbyterian Church
celebrated its 151st anniversary with Rev..,
Nicholas Vandermey as the guest minister. Joyce
Pepper was the organist and accompanied the
guest soloist Sarah •Noakes- as she sang "Amazing
Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". The offering
was received by Harry Smith, John Baker, Al
Hoggarth, and Robert Bell. Lunch was served by
the P.C.W.
The sympathy of the community goes to the fam-
ily of the late Ruby Bell.
The Heart and Stroke Big Bike comes to Hensall
this Sunday, June 6. Twenty-nine people from
Hensall and Zurich area will ride the bike for
about 3 km, through the village. The ride com-
mences at 3:30. p.m. from the village hall and will
pass by the arena, Northcrest and Queensway
Nursing Horne and then return to the village hall.

The Grand Bend 2001 Canada Summer Games Friends of the
