annual meeting of the
Staffa Women's
Institute was hosted
by president Kay
Smale at her home on
April 14 with 12
members present.
Joyce Miller
presided opening
with the institute Ode
and Mary Stewart
Collect. Secretary
Claudette Elliott read
the minutes from the
previous meeting.
A planning meeting
to complete the pro-
grams for the coming
year will be held at
Smale's home on May
7 at 10 a.m. Everyone
is to bring a sandwich
for lunch.
The standing com-
mittees reported on
this past year and the
roll call was
answered by the pay-
ment of fees for the
coming year.
Staffa branch is
responsible for coffee
and cookies during
registration at the
District Annual at
Sebringville Church.

Annual meeting held at Grand Bend United Church
GRAND BEND - Easter was the
theme for the United Church
Women's meeting held April 8 in
the Sunday School rooms at°
church. Vera Rempel read sever-
al poems and stories on Easter
and hymns were sung accompa-
nied by Irene Kennedy at the
piano. Jean Cassidy read from
the March Observer on U.C.W.
and about the task group looking
beyond past and present
women's groups. New ideas are
taking shape.,
President Gloria Thompson
presided for the opening and
business. Bertie Keyes read
thank you letters. A card was
signed to go to Geri Wright in
the sudden death of her husband
Lorne in the Queen Charlotte
Islands, B.C. Geri was the U.C.W.
treasurer for 20 years when she
lived in Grand Bend.
Roll call was answered by 14
members telling an Easter expe-
rience.
Lunch hostesses were Joan
and Marg Love.
In the April..11 service at
Grand Bend United Church, the
theme was "Breath of Hope." In
Rev. Putman's talk to the chil-
dren, he told them some people
are doubters over things they
cannot see or touch. To the con-
gregation about Easter being a
time to look for better things and
a season for revival. The scrip-
tures were read by Hank Ford,
and the choir anthem was
"Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Give
Thanks."
Hearty applause followed a
thank you to Larry Taylor for his
Cub and Scout leading, and to
the choir and organist and Rev.
Putman for their musical num-
bers at the Easter Ecumenical
April 7 at Grand Bend Catholic
Church.
The annual meeting was held
April 18. following the church
service. Lunch before the meet-
ing was provided by the U.C.W.
