Hurricanes go out of March like a lion
VANASTRA - The Huron
Hurricanes Aquatic Club
Novice group attended
the Optimist Novice invi-
tational swim meet spon-
sored by the Cambridge
Aquajet swim club.
In the 13 and 14 year
old division, Jeremy
Blackwell placed fifth in
the 50 fly and the 50
breaststroke, and seventh
in the 50 metre back-
stroke.
In the 10 and under
division, Aiden Barnett
placed seventh in the 50
m freestyle, and eighth in
the 100 individual med-
ley. Jacob Crosby placed
second in the 50 back,
and the 50 free, and fifth
in the 100 free.
In the eight and under
division, Lisa McCann
placed fifth in the 25
metre breaststroke and
the 100 metre individual
medley. She also placed
seventh in the 50 free and
eighth in the 25 metre
backstroke. Jessica
Sparling placed second in
the 50 metre freestyle,
third in the 100 metre
individual medley and
sixth in the 25 metre
breaststroke. Hannah Uyl
placed eighth in the 25
metre butterfly.
While the . Novices were
in Cambridge, the other
Hurricanes were compet-
ing at a development
meet in Waterloo.
In the 10 and under
division, Melanie McCann
won first in the 200 metre
backstroke, and the 200
metre individual -medley.
She placed second in the
50 back and fourth in the
50 fly. Matt Miner won
first in the 200 free, the
100 backstroke, the 200
individual medley and the
50 backstroke, in which
he set a team record.
In the 11 and 12 age
group, Susan Miner won
first in the 200 metre
individual medley and the
50 metre butterfly. She
placed second in the 100
butterfly and seventh in
the 200 metre freestyle,
Kelly Ann Vandendool
placed second in the 200
individual medley, third
in the 100 backstroke,
fourth in the 50 fly, and
eighth in the 200
freestyle. Laurie
Vandendool placed sec-
ond in the 200 metre
backstroke, and third in
the 50 free, the 200 indi-
vidual medley and the
100 butterfly. Meghan
Lee placed fourth in the
100 butterfly, and fifth in
the 100 freestyle,and the
50 butterfly. Jillian
Wright placed first in the
50 backstroke, third in
the 50 breaststroke, and
sixth in the 100 freestyle.
Patrick Livingstone placed
first in the 50 breast, the
100 breaststroke, and the
200 breaststroke. He
placed fourth in the 50
metre freestyle.
In the 13 and 14 year
old division, Allison
Segeren placed first in the
50 breast and the 200
butterfly. She placed third
in the 200 metre back-
stroke and sixth in the
100 metre freestyle.
Candace Becker placed
second in the 200 metre
backstroke and the 50
metre butterfly. She also
placed third in the 100
metre backstroke, and
fifth in the 100 metre
freestyle. Jessie Connolly
placed first in the 200
individual medley, third
in the 50 fly, and fourth in
the 200 freestyle. Meghan
Morris placed second in
the 200 individuat medley
and fourth in both the 50
fly and the 100 metre
backstroke. Brittany
Segeren won first in the
50 fly and second in the
100 fly and the 100 metre
freestyle. Leeanne
Vincent placed fourth in
the 50 free and sixth in
the 100 backstroke.
Elizabeth Macgregor
placed first in the 50
backstroke, third in the
200 individual medley
and seventh in both the
200 free and the 100
backstroke. Aaron Datars
placed first In the 200
individual medley, third
in the 50 free, fourth in
the 100 breaststroke, and
fifth in the 200 free. Scott
McNicholl won first in the
50. breaststroke, second
in the 100 breaststroke,
and sixth in both the 50
free and the 100 freestyle.
In the 15 and over age
group, Sarah Datema
won first in the 200 indi-
vidual medley. She placed
second in the 50 free, and
third in both the 100
backstroke and the, 50
butterfly. Sarah McNicholl
placed third in the 50
free, fourth in the 50 fly
and fifth in the 100 back-
stroke. Jessica Tyndall
placed second in the 100
fly, fourth in the 100
freestyle and fifth in the
50 butterfly. Jason Brown
won first in the 50 back-
stroke, second in the 50
free, fourth in the 200
free and fifth in the 100
freestyle.
The Hurricanes will be
travelling to Team
Championships in
Etobicoke in two weeks.

Mid -Elgin Red Wings. (born in '91) player Mitchell McNeil skates away from a
Stratford player during their 3 -on -3 Hockey International tournament game at
Lucan Arena on Saturday.T-A coverage area players on the team include Judson
Couture, Jarrett Johns, Jayden Desjardine and Brent Overholt The Red Wings
ended up winning their age division. Other local age divisic)n winners:The '89 Mid -
Elgin Red Wings won the 'A' side (local players Logan Cou:ure and Danny Ryan),
the '89 Rink Rats won the `B' side (Derek Sowerby, Ryan Clarke, Blair Bennett,
Dylan Pryce; Morgan Grant, Brian Hogervorst) and the '90 Mid -Elgin Red Wings
(Greg Noyes, josh Cornelissen, Mike Ryan).Tournament organizer said 80 teams
in '17 age divisions played at four arenas: Lucan, St. Marys, Hensall and London's
Nichols Arena.An '89 team from Wawa travelled nine hours to play in the tourney
and a men's team from Hull, PQ, won their division.

WHITBY - The Forest Big '0'
Tweens competed in Whitby recently
at the Ontario Provincial Ringette
Championship Tournament.
The opening game. featured Upper
Ottawa Valley scoring 30 seconds
into the game which would be their
only goal of a 6-1 final. Scoring for
Forest were Shannon Stewardson,
Alison Price, Amber Preszcator,
Lindsay Eckert, Leah Henderson and
Lindsey Vivian. Assists went to Alex
Sanger, Jenny Mcfarlane, Shannon
'Stewardson, Alison Price, and two
each for Lindsey Vivian and Denise
Ritchie.
The second contest was against the
host team from Whitby who narrowly
defeated them 4-2. Forest goals were
scored by Alex Sanger and Alison
Price and an assist by Alison Price.
Game three versus Gloucester was
a 3-1 win for Forest with goals from
Alison Price, Shannon Stewardson,
Lindsay Eckert and an assist by Alex
Sanger.
A defeat from Ottawa came next by
an 11-3 score. Forest goals were
scored by Denise Ritchie, Katie Scott,
Lindsay Eckert and assists went to
Lauren Donald and Katie Scott.
The fifth match versus Sudbury was
a 5-0 final with a goal from Lindsay
Eckert and two each from Denise
Ritchie and Alex Sanger. Assists went
to Alex Sanger, Jenn Duff, Amber
Preszcator, Michelle Clarke, Lauren
Donald and Katie Scott.
Game six was perhaps a ringette
first with goaltender Katie Daubs
recording both a goal and a second
shutout in a 7-0 defaulted game with
Cumberland. Additional points went
to Lauren Donald, Leah Henderson,

actual game was played in good faith
by both teams to a much closer 2-1
final score with Forest on top.
The seventh and final game of
round robin play was a 4-2 loss
against Woolwich, goals by Lindsay
Eckert and Denise Ritchie with
assists from Alex Sanger and Jenn
Duff.
The standings remained unchanged
through two championship games'
with Ottawa getting gold, Whitby sil-
ver, and Forest receiving the bronze
medals.
The girls capped off their season
later the same week defeating the
Stratford Junior Team to capture the
Huron Perth junior 'A' league title
