The wind-up for the crokinole season was last Tuesday. Twenty-eight members, spares and spouses enjoyed supper at Millingtons. Crokinole fol- lowed at the church with five tables in play. Door prizes were won by Marg Hayter, Joan Beierling, Jim Kirton, Elly Van Bergen and Melissa Sparling. Crokinole will resume in October. A team of Varna players consisting of Ivan McClymont, Joe Fulop, Raymond and Jason Beierling attended the Joseph Schneider House in Kitchener on Saturday. They came home first place winners. They won over. the team from St. Jacobs. Congratulations! There will be a commu- nity bridal shower for Sandra Coultis at Varna Church April 29th at 8 p.m. Youth Groups want to raise funds so they are available for a Slave Day Saturday, April 24. r Thames Road-Elirnville preparing for lasagna and spaghetti supper By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD - The April meeting of the U.C.W. was held in Thames Road Church when they entertained women from Caven, Hibbert, Kirkton and Zion. Judith Parker- wel- comed everyone andgave the call to worship "The Blessed Joy of Friendship." Ruth Anne Osgood read scriptures. Marjorie Johns accompanied the songs on the piano. A skit entitled "Modern Day Version on the Scripture" was presented by Margaret Stewart por- +"aying Zachaeus and Karen Etherington por- traying Jesus. Agnes Bray and Osgood received the offering with an offertory prayer by Parker. She then welcomed Margaret Hern, president of the Huron Perth Presbyterial U.C.W. S-tewart introduced Pirie Mitchell who is the pastor at Hensall United Church. He gave an inter- esting message. Stewart gave a reading "Treat Friends and Kids the Same". Karen Etherington gave a read- ing "Make Me A Better Friend." President Jean Hodgert welcomed everyone and opened the business part of the meeting with a poem "Friendship." The U.C.W. have been asked to cater to a lunch, wedding meal and lunch. The Special April Event is in Mitchell United Church on April 19 at 6:30 p.m. Sandra Hern of Zion, whose church had received a Peace Candle from Centralia, gave it to the women of the U.C.W. Marilyn Carter was in charge of the regular church service on Sunday morning at Thames Road. Judith Parker spoke about the Voices United Hymn Books Proposal. Rev. Carter and Robyn McKnight lit the Christ candle. The minister told the children a story about Moses. The choir sang "Because He ..ive" accompanied by organist Jean Hodgert. Don Bray read the scriptures lessons. The title of the minister's ser- mon was "An Emmaus Experience." The offering was received by Jean Johns and Kay Morley. Coming events April 24 a lasagna and spaghetti supper will be held at Thames Road. Sittings are at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Adults $10, children six to 12 $5 and children five and under are free. Advance tickets only. Tickets available from the finance committee, Fred Delbridge, Helen Kadey, Shirley Kerslake and Sharon Passmore. A spring concert will be held on April 25 at 7 p.m. at Thames Road United Church fearxuring "Heartsong", a male trio from London; "The Bonds of Love" " quartet from Woodstock; and Roy Dreaning, a gospel recording artist from Ireland. "Imagining Ourselves Richly...Again" is a work- shop about stress reduc- tion, stress management, relaxation techniques, becoming change hardy, increasing our mindful- ness, dealing with anger, revisiting and increasing our self-worth. The pre- senter will be Gabriele Del Bianco, president of lnnerfit Counselling and Consulting. Each evening will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It will be held April 21 at the OMAFRA build- ing in Clinton; April 22 at the Town Hall in Wingham; April 27 at the Town Hall in Exeter. The workshop is free, spon- sored by OMAFRA, Huron Pork Producers and the Clinton Community Credit Union. Personals Quite a number of peo- ple attended the 50th wedding anniversary cel- ebration at Zion on Saturday for Clif and Leona Jaques. The Youth Sunday School class will be pro- viding a sandwich and sweets lunch after the church service on May 2. All proceeds will go. to support the refugees in Kosovo. Correction In last week's T -A, Hurondale Women's Institute committee mem- ber Lois McFalls was incorrectly identified as Gloria McFalls. The gremlins were in the computer and changed Kate Monk's name to Kate Nixon, The TA reporters did not get married but will still accept any gifts.
