News from St. Anne's
by Abp 1. McMillan
The first week back
from March break was an
exciting one as students
got back into books and
the day to day life at a
high school. The week
ended with an assembly
at which a hypnotist held
the students' attention for
a ward length oftime with
some pretty impressive
powers of persuasion.
This week we received a
very special letter. It was
from The Dalai Lama. He
is considered Temporal
and Spiritual leader of the
Tibetan People. The gov-
ernment is in exile and is
working one person at a
time to reverse the
oppression of Tibet by the
Chinese government. Our
students, in Grade Ten,
wrote to him and to the
Chinese government to
protest the oppression of
the people of Tibet. We
were overwhelmed to
receive such a response
from such a world figure.
It is a lesson to all, of the
power each one of us pos-
sesses. So often we feel
that there is no point, no
way to stand and make a
difference, and then, such
an event reminds us of
both our power and our
duty.
The Dalai Lama said,
As members of the same
human family we all want
happiness and do not
want sadness." It was
amazing to share this very
special letter with others
at St. Anne's.
This week the students
and staff will be busy get-
ting ready for the Fashion
Show. It's called CHIC
AIMS: TWO NIGHTS OP
SPRING FASHION.
Tickets are available at
the school, call 482.5454.
The show runs Thursday,
April 8th and Friday,
April 9th. The runway
will be lit up at 7:30 PM.
So be there and see
what's new in fashion for
spring 1999. This is the
first ever fashion show for
St. Anne's and all pro-
ceeds go to the St. Anne's
Graduation and Bursary
Fund. Local shops have
been very supportive
across Huron so come out
and see what's hew in
fashion and support the
hard working group who
made this idea a reality.
Hats off to Ms. Leroux for
all her hard work in mak-
ing this happen.
