New Tech 21 program finds location by Michele Greene SEAFORTH- - A new design and technology/family studies program for Grade 7/8 students in Stratford, St: Marys and Mitchell will be located at Stratford Central Secondary School. Last Tuesday night in Seaforth, Avon Maitland District School Board trustees reviewed additional information sought by administration on the ideal loca- tion for the new program, known as Tech 21. "Central loses the least amount of space and gains some improvements," said superintendent Janet Baird -Jackson. Trustees also considered Stratford Northwestern Secondary School (SNWSS) as a possible location. "There is the potential to pursue something that. would be of benefit to both boards," she said. SNWSS is located adjacent to St. Michael Roman Catholic Separate School, operated by the Huron -Perth Roman Catholic Separate School Board. A SERC Tech program would benefit both schools. Locating the Tech21 program at SNWSS could eliminate those pos- sibilities, she said. The existing design and technology/family studies programs in the three urban areas will be eliminated and centralized at Stratford Central Secondary School. The plan will increase sp ice in the existing elementary schools, reducing the need for -sortables. It will also allow more students to access more advanced equip- ment. Although the $300,000 li- brary was supposed to be finished by the end of January, ground was never brok- en and the original ar- chitect, Glen Herglotz, was recently fired be- cause drawings weren't finished in time and the arena board wasn't hap- py with how things were progressing. Lucan Biddulph coun- cillor and arena board chairperson Perry Cas - planned kanette told the T -A Monday night "a library will be built, it's just a matter of when." A new architect, Paul Kershaw of London, has been hired and Cas- kanette said it will probably take about six weeks for Ker- shaw to finish drawings for a new 3,000 sq. ft. library. Kershaw will need to start from scratch, Cas- kanette said, because Herglotz's • drawings were flawed because they had the library too close to the road. The arena board met "a library will be built, it's just a matter of when." PERRY CASKANETTE LUCAN BIDDULPH COUNCILLOR TAYLOR 110- F SERVICE Tree & Stump Removal Res..
