"Historically, CO detectors have proven effective in saving lives," said Moyle. "I would strongly encour- age people to continue using CO detectors in their homes." Testing of CO detectors is carried out regularly by accredited agencies such as Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (OLC). Recently, tests have been undertaken on a number of off-the-shelf CO detectors. Underwriters Laboratories of Canada will comment on and release the results of these tests at the appropriate time. "Clearly it is the responsibility of the manufactur- ers, as well as testing and certifying agencies, such as ULC and Canadian Standards Association (CSA), to address questions about this public safety issue in a timely manner," added Moyle.
