meeting.
Doug "l'hompson spoke
to council about a de-
cision to refuse him a
loan of $7,500 for a tile
drain to be installed at
his Saintsbury Line
home.
While the loan would
come from the province,
it had to be approved by
council. Council couldn't
approve of the loan be-
cause Thompson went
ahead with the work be-
fore council knew it was
being done. Thompson
claimed he didn't know
the tile drain needed to
be inspected.
Thompson accused
staff of- the former Bid-
dulph Township of not
doing their jobs and not
properly telling him
what he: had to do to get
the loan approved. •
"I'm not .prepared to
let go of this. I think I
got screwed," Thompson
said, adding that he felt
none of the municipal
staff took the time to
deal with his problem.
Council agreed to in-
spect the site, at Thomp-
son's expense, to prove
the tile drain had been
installed. When that hap-
pens, the loan will be ap-
proved and Thompson
will get his money.
"Let's inspect it and
move on," Coun. Glenn
Silver said of the tile
drain.
Thompson then con-
ceded to council of the
mixup, "It's mostly my
mistake. I admit that."
Lucan Biddulph ad-
ministrator Ron Reymer
said the township will try
to avoid the problem in
the future by making
sure each loan applicant
has a copy of the re-
quirements.
Council chooses Exeter Music
EXETER — Exeter. coun-
cil decided to go with
Exeter Music Centre for a
wired sound system for
council chambers to
replace the wireless one
installed by Sound Advice.
The wireless public
address system Sound
Advice installed proved to
be unwieldly for council-
lors to operate, the fallout
of which proved to be a
sticking point between
council and Sound Advice.
Exeter Music Centre's
tender of $1,360.91 for a
wired system came in
below Sound Advice's
quote of $1,383.45.
Council unanimously chose

Sump pump
program
EXETER — At least one
Exeter councillor wants to
once and for all prevent
sewer back up problems in
town neighbourhoods.
At Monday's regular
council meeting, Coun.
Peter Armstrong instruct-
ed chief administrative
officer Rick Hundey to
include discussion on a
possible infiltration pro-
gram with mandatory
sump pumps for the base-
ments of new homes on a
future meeting agenda.
Armstrong said he wants
to look at a program that
would end the possibility of
another costly problem
some homeowners on
Pryde Blvd. faced last year
when sewage backed up
into the homes from base-
ment drains.
Lucan has a similar pro-
gram that has greatly
reduced flows to its
sewage treatment plant.
