Times-Advocate, 1999-01-27, Page 26ql ;s 24 Business Huron Perth Hospitals Partnership names new vice presidents By Scott Nixon TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF SEAFORTH — The Huron Perth Hospitals Partnership made its first major decisions with the announcement of its new vice presidents last week. The partnership — which consists of the hos- pitals from Exeter, Clinton, St. Marys, Winghani, Seaforth, Stratford, Clinton and Goderich — has replaced the eight CEOs who previ- ously ran the hospitals with two vice presidents, who will act as site administrators, and two vice presidents for finance and human resources. A third site administrator is yet to be hired. Partnership president and CEO Bonnie Adamson presented the new vice presidents to the media during a press conference last Thursday at Seaforth hospital. Janice Cosgrove will be responsible for the administration of Exeter's South Huron Hospital, Goderich's Alexandra Marine . and General Hospital and Clinton Public Hospital. Cosgrove preprenjimilliiperked, as m site 1 ator at the Clinton Hospital. Hired to work as admin- istrator for St. Marys and Stratford hospitals is Andrew Williams who, with the partnership's interim team, also worked for Stratford as well as Seaforth. Yet to be named is the administrator for the Wingham, Listowel and Seaforth hospitals. Adamson said she expects.the third vice president to be named soon, although she could- n't be specific. She did say the third vice president will not be hired from within the partnership. Vice president of finance and information is John Sutherland, who previously worked with the partnership. As the budget for the eight hospitals is $100 million, Adamson said the money has to be spent responsibly, res'ilting il<r the newly stre +.mlinec management team. ertikt eve - vice presidents have been hired, Adamson said the management team will next be looking at which health care programs will be located at which hospi- tals. Adamson has previ- ously said there will be no duplication among the hospitals. Adamson said the part- nership will continue to • restructure management at the eight hospitals, explaining that manage- ment hours need to be reduced. And while she said the eight hospitals need to start working as one sys- tem as opposed to eight, each hospital must remain unique. Cosgrove said she is pleased to be part of the Huron Perth Hospitals Partnership, explaining that the group has strong leadership and, grea vision. As she will be site administrator for hospi- tals in Exeter,. Clinton and Goderich, Cosgrove expects "a steep learning curve" when her job offi- cially starts on Feb. 1. While she already known the Clinton hospital well, Cosgrove said she'll have to begin spending time in Exeter and Goderich to weLemor twesaire111110111111140unewslinip and communities. Cosgrove said the eight hospitals can provide bet- ter health care by work- ing as a group as opposed to working individually. She also addressed South Huron Hospital's problems keeping its emergency room open last summer. Cosgrove said medical manpower is a crucial issue that has to be addressed by the partner- ship and said she will participate in any effort to bring more physicians to the area. As Cosgrove has already helped a Clinton group in its efforts to have that community officially declared medically under - serviced, she has experi- ence in medical recruit - t ment Williams echoed Cosgrove's comments that the partnership will have to bring the eight hospi- tals together and operate as one system, but added. the different -cultures of each hospital, must be respected. . He described one of the partnership's goals as eliminating duplication and reinvesting the sav r hriettir mask' >Iih;; said hospital staff will be reviewed, but couldn't say what cutbacks there will be. Williams already has experience working as administrator for two hospitals — Seaforth and Stratford — so he said his new position as site administrator for St. Marys and Stratford won't be' an unfamiliar workload to him. The partnership, which advertised the five posi- tions nationally, received 110 applications. Seventeen people were interviewed for the jobs. Adamson said the most qualified people were hired and she described the hiring process as fair and open.
