The senior Panthers took two of three games from Central Huron 15-10, 15-11 and 12 15.The juniors lost two games to Central Huron, both 14-16, but won the third game 15-13. On Thursday the seniors travelled to Wingham FE. Madill for matches against Madill and Central Huron. SHDHS swept Central Huron 15-4, 15-4 and 15-12, but fell three straight to Madill. The midget Panthers had exactly the same result at Madill versus Central Huron as they did earlier in the week;The seniors travelled to the'Stf afford Northwestern tournament on -Jan. 15-16 and faced some totgh.competition:The Panthers managed two wins versus t:istowel, 15.4 and 15-6. but fell to Strathroy and Madill. The SHDHS junior boys basketball team travelled to the Listowel tournament the same weekend. Theylost their three games, the first 69-44. to Waterloo St, Davids, the second to Goderich .58-45 and the third to ListoWel 48-45.Alt hi school sports regular league action takes a break for exams next week with action 'resuming Feb. 11 at St.Anne's for girls volleyball and Feb. 8 at St.Anne's for s basketbatl.The senior boys will travel to the Listowel tournament on Feb tee, -!len me day. Panther wrestlers won a total of nine medalsat the Guelph Centennial High School meet on their way . to winning, the novice team title over Milton E.C. Drury, Centennial, Georgetown and Resurrection. Gold medals winners included Shannon VanRompaey, Brian Gielen and Mike Skinner; Cal deLange, Brian Harrigan, Daryl Weiss and Jason Ingram picked up silver medals; and ers Bryan Evans and John Forrester won bronze medals. The Panthers also won the novice division at the Drury meet, with 16 wres"`rtlers winning medals out of the 28 -member team. Gold medals were won by Ryan Groot, Harrigan, Matt Mauer and Luke Shantz; silver was won by Bob Hamilton, Tanner Ingram, Derek. Noble and Gielen; bronze went to Dave Veal, Matt Rowe, Gordon Radford, Skinner, Levi Lane, Evans and Brad Harrigan. The Panther girls faced tough competition at the 11 SPORTS DIVOTS Motorplex honours its own at banquet LONDON -- The best racers of the '98 season were toasted during the Grand Bend Motorplex's Banquet of Champions at London's Best Western Lamplighter Inn on Saturday. Those honoured included: •Exeter's Chris Haugh - Grand Champion, ashpalt sled champ, Nothers All-Star Bracket Series champ; •Exeter's Ben Rader - Rookie of Year, 3rd in modified street; •Exeter's Dave Bryson - Snap -on King of the Beach Grand Champion. Couture' calling NLL. games BIRR =— If Lucanites think they see a familiar face during National Lacrosse League televised games, they may l -e right. Birr's Chet Couti re has been a NLL official since its inception in '98. This season he's been assigned eight games including Friday's game at Maple Leaf Gardens between the Toronto Rock and Rochester. The game will be on ITV Sportsnet beginnipg, at 7 p.m. Couture hopes to be assigned to a couple more • games. He also has a couple more games hi Toronto next month. The NLL has teams in Toronto, Rochester, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York, Syracuse and Buffalo. The league was known as the Major Indoor Lacrosse League for t2 years leading up to '98. g like their many medals Guelph tournament and picked up only one medal. 'a Both games were physical with some heavy hitting t and some stick work behind the play. The Chiefs 1 coaching staff is concerned about Lucknow's low hit- ting style that could injure knees and ligaments. The coaches complained about the lack of calls on the low t hitting from the referee to no avail. The Chiefs will be eliminated from the OMHA play- r downs if they lose tonight at home at 9 p.m. If they i win, they'll head back to Lucknow on the weekend for r game four of the best three out of five series. g Soldan said the Chiefs need to play the physical game and shoot more on the Lucknow net if they are to win g tonight. p "They have tended to try to work in too dose and ultimately not get the opportunity to shoot," Soldan t' said. Exeter Jr. D Hawks had a week to mull over an a 3-0 home loss to Mitchell last week. Mitchell scored twice in the first period and once in the second and cruised through the third period for the win. The game was marred by. only one set of penal- ties when Exeter's Ryan Freiter and Mitchell's Todd Schmidt dropped the gloves at 15:41 of the third period. Exeter's record falls to 10-18-3-1 (wins, losses, ties, overtime losses) and 24 points, good for fourth place in the Morenz .
