Rasenberg named Sportsman of Year

EXETER — John
Rasenberg couldn't
believe his ears when he
heard he is the Western
Ontario • " Soccer
Association's '98
Sportsmaa_.of the -Year
recipient.
The Exeter Centennials
coach was given the hon-
our at the WOSL, banquet
and -awards ceremonies
at London's Marconi Club
on Saturday.
"1 Was a little shocked."
Rasenberg said about get-

exemplary sportsmanship
and contributions to their
soccer community.
Rasenberg has been
involved with Exeter
Minor Soccer as a player
or a coach for his entire
life' and is 'known as one
of its top supporters.
Rasenberg said he was
especially pleased a small
town guy like him was
chosen before coaches
and executives from 48
other WOSL teams. many
of which come from 'larg-
er urban centres.
"It's nice to be recog-
nized especially since it's
a large organization."

After playing a scoreless first peri-
od, Jarret Jeffrey got Exeter on the
scoreboard by scoring at 10:33 of
the second from Jeremy Geoffrey.
Dave Farquhar scored while short-
handed just over two minutes, later
from Craig Corriveau. Mike Noble
put Exeter up 3-0 by scoring at 4:36
of the second from Brad Brown.

McCann, Chris Chatterson put the
icing, on the cake by scoring a
powerplay goal with 5:31 left inthe
game from F, .,har and Corriveau.
After starting the season 0-6, the
Hawks have gone 6-6-1.1(wins,
losses, ties, overtime losses).
Exeter is also undefeated in regu-
lation time in their last five games,

Chiefs win one out of three for week
EXETER — 'Fhc Exeter Juvenile Chiefs
hockey team managed just one win over
three games on the weekend.
The Chiefs breezed to a 5-1 win in St:
Thomas Sunday., The shorthanded
Chiefs were subjected to a physical con-
test w'th St. Thomas seemingly trying to
run Exeter out of the arena taking 21
penalties compared with Exeter's 14.
Included in those 21 penalties were two
fighting majors, one inciting, two face-
maski ig, two unsportsmanlike and
three game misconducts, all earned by
just eight players. -
The Chiefs had penalty problems of
their own. At one point, the Chiefs had
two defencemon in the dressing room
`ejected for fighting and the remaining
three blueliners were in the penalty box
at the same time. Ryan Carroll and'Paul
Knight filled in till the box cleared.
The Chiefs drew two game miscon-
ducts. for fighting and one unsportsman-
like for verbal insults.
