School board's
review tonight
MITCHELL.—The fate of•Avon Maitland schools -
could be learned tonight at a special. meeting at
the Mitchell District High School from 7:30-9:30-
p.m. .
•
-As part of its annual school'accommodatiop
review, board superintendent Janet Baird=
Jackson will be making a presentation on the. -
review 'process, .the data collected and opininns• on
how to deal with what the review discovered.
After Baird -Jackson's presentation members of
the public will be able to ask questions. •• .
The .review has been looking at the financial via-
bility of.all of the board's schools as well- as
staffing:, programs, enrolment and any" potential .
renovations needed. .
The. school accommodation- review follows a
•controversial period in which the board had
released a -list of schools that could potentially be
closed.. While that list was eventually rejected by
the board, the: accommodation review. could also
recommend that certain schools be closed.
• Director of Dducation Lorne Rachlis, however,
has told the T -A if the. board. decides- to release a
list of schools. to be potentially closed, it likely.
won't include as.many as the original list, in
which 14 schools across the board could have
been closed.
-Following 'tonight's meeting, a- report to .the.
board will -be made on Dec. 8 at the Clinton office.
