Fury still winless after 1-1 tie vs. Wallaceburg
EXETER — The Exeter Fury
earned a point by tying Wal-
laceburg 1-1 at Canners Field on
Sunday.
The game was delayed by about
an hour when the scheduled referee
didn't show and Fury player/
spokesperson Jason McFalls had to
race to find a replacement.
Once action started, the Fury
were quick off the mark with Tim
Proctor earning a penalty shot after
being hauled down in the box.
But Proctor sent his shot over the
crossbar erasing the Fury's early
chance for a lead.
Exeter had some good scoring
chances during the rest of the half
but were unable to finish when in
close.
The second half started with Fury
player Pete McAllister breaking in
Watery search
Where's the ball? Kathy Hayter looks for her ball in one of
Exeter Golf Club's water hazards during the 3rd annual Pal-
liative Care Volunteer Program Golf Tournament on Sat-
urday. Twenty-nine golfers participated inthe tournament
and 35 enjoyed the barbecue supper. Proceeds go towards
the South Huron PCVP.
Scatherds honor Cowan
GRAND BEND — Though he doesn't swing the club like he did.
Kitchener's Gary Cowan can still inspire awe out on the golf
course.
Cowan, 59, one of. Canada's all-time great golfers, was honored
by friend Dave Scatcherd and his son Colin at the 17th annual Dave
Scatcherd Invitational Classic tournament fundraiser for
Community Living London at Grand Bend's Oakwood Golf Club
last week. The Scatcherds gave Cowan a framed caricature print
commemorating his golf achievements throughout his career.
Cowan won the U.S. Amateur title in '66 and '71 and nine
Ontario amateur titles from '64-84. He walked away with the
Ontario amateur runner-up spot six times over that stretch. Hc also
won the Canadian amateur championship.in '61 and was a finalist
four times, won the Ontario Open in '68 and was runner-up three
times. Cowan also had the low amateur score in the '62 U.S.
Masters, represented Canada many time in international competi-
tion and started playing on the PGA Senior Tour in '91.
Cowan suffered a stroke last year and although he seems fine, he
is still recovering and doesn't hit the links as hard or often as he
since did. But Cowan was out at Oakwood for the Scatcherd event,
one he's attended every year since '83 except for when he was on
the senior tour.

alone and firing a low shot that
made it past the Wallaceburg keep-
er.
The game turned in Wal-
laceburg's favor soon after McAI-
lister's goal as they took the play to
Exeter's defence trying to find the
equalizer.
Eventually Wallaceburg's of-
fensive pressure paid off when
McFalls tackled a visiting striker in
the penalty area. The Wallaceburg
player made no mistake on the pen-
alty kick and tied things up with
only five minutes left in the game.
Exeter had a few excellent chanc-
es to win as they attacked the net
with shots from all areas of the
field in an attempt to get the three
points and their first win of the sea-
son.
The tie gives the Fury a 0-3-2
record.
Exeter next hosts the German Ca-
nadians on Sunday at 4 p.m.

pass from Jody Becker.
Farquhar scored again a few min-
utes later to make the score 3-0.
Theophilopoulas scored late in the
half to make it 4-0.
