part of the play. South -Huron kcep-
er Trevor Skinner was sharp
throughout the first half Io ensure -
the teams played to a scoreless tie.
Dave Robilliard and his crew of
defensive -specialists kept the shots
to the outside. but Straibroy's strik-
ers were strong.. and their' shots
forced Skinner to make •several
tough stops.
But Exeter was the team that

Centennials thrash
Forest United 5-0.
LONDON -- The Exctcr Centennials men's soccer team romped
5-0 over Forest United on Friday night in London during Western
Ontario Soccer League Division II action.
Nick Szabo opened the scoring early in thc game' when' he blasted
the ball past the diving keeper. •
The score' remained 1-0 for the remainder' of the first half despite
Exeter's domination of Forest United. The hosts even managed to
penetrate down for a few good shots and a slew of corner kicks.
Mark Lynn •and Mark Bell helped direct the defence to repel the
crosses and the few shots that were allowed were blocked by -the
steady play of keeper George McEwan who admitted he only had to
work hard in the first stanza. for the shutout.
Chippy play and undisciplined actions by the hosts earned them
three red cards by the end of the game and they played the second
half with as few as eight players.
The Centennials took advantage of the opportunity and played the
rest of the game like it was shooting practice. Luke Sims made the
score 2-0 when he got good air and headed home Shawn Rotteau's
perfect cross. The Centennials were then awarded a penalty shot
which Szabo buried in off the post for the.third goal.
Szabo made it a hat -trick after stealing the hall from a defender.
dcking the keeper out of the play and then popping thc ball into the
twine. .
Pete McAllister finished the Centennials' scoring when he took a
nice pass and pounded the hall behind the keeper.
The Cents host Chatham on Sunday at Canners Field. a 6 p.m.
start and will play another home game on June 10 versus the Scot-
tish:
Exeter found itself up against tough competition in thcir first
round League Cup game -at home versus Sarnia's Blucwater Premier
on May 27 — the Cents lost 4-0.
Playing a clearly defensive style with the emphasis on man-to-man
play, the hosts did well to keep thc shooting chances down, hut•the
highly -skilled premier players were good enough at creating those
chances to have a 2-0 lead at the end of the half. The second half
provided much of the same for Exeter. •
Thc Centennials are still in the hunt in Division II Cup play that
begins later this month. h ,
Fury fall to Dante 3-1
. SARNIA — The Exeter Fury
senior men's soccer team may have
had a lung ride home on Saturday
after losing 10 host Dante 3-1 in
their Western Ontario Soccer
League Division 111 gatne.
The Fury defence gave the op-
position too many offensive chanc-
es and Dante took advantage with
two early goals. :
The Fury upped their intensity
level in the second half which re-
sulted in more scoring chances.
'1'hc Fury's Tim Proctor was
awarded a penalty shot after being
tackled in the box. Proctor made no
mistake on the shot ..by burying it
behind the Dante keeper.
Exeter had its chances to tie the
game during a couple of scrambles
in front of the Sarnia net hut the
hall didn't find its way through the
maze of players to the net.
Dante added to their lead soon af-
ter the scrambles in front of their
own net.
"ihe loss puts the Fury's record at
0-2-I:
"We didn't start competing until
the second half but we still had our
chances to tic the game late," said
Fury player/spokesperson Jason
McFalls.

roy the win.
The senior Panthers made it. to
the final by winning a rematch with
their. Huron- Perth. adversaries Strat-
ford Central in ovcrtirne• 2- I .earlier
on Friday at Canners Field.
- Despite winning a 3-0 shutout
over Central in the Huron -Perth fi-
nal, coach George Mcliwan knew
the game. was much closer than thc
score indicated and that the Strat-
ford Rams were hungry tri to knock-
off the Panthers out of WOSSA.
McFiwan and his players breathed
a sigh of relict after the first half
ended in a scoreless tic since Strat-
ford clearly dominated the play
