Cool off at your Heart's Desire
By Katherine Harding
T -A Reporter-

.)EXETER - If you have a han-
kering for ice cream or other sweet
treats, you may want to try Heart's
Desire, Exeter's newest ice cream
shop.
Store owner Ethel -Lori Trichncr
transformed her dining room to ac-
commodate the home -run venture.
While Heart's Desire started
scooping out ice create on May 23,
the store located at 51 'Thames
Road will not officially open till
June 6.
To celebrate this Saturday, the
store will be offering a "buy one •

price" special.
Triettner initially gut the idea to
start up the store in January.
"I prayed about it a lot for what
direction to take," said Triebner.
She got the store's name from the
bible verse, "Delight yourself in
the Lord and he will give you your
heart's desire - Psalm 37."
"1 wanted to give honor to God,"
she said.
Getting the store ready has been
a real family project.
Triebner's husband Harold and
son Daniel helped with con-
structing, the shop and daughter
Cassandra has been assisting with
the store's day-to-day operations.
Trichncr is excited about work-
ing with her daughter who is a
grade nine student at South Huron
District High School.
"1 wanted to give her a job for
the summer to keep her out of trou-
ble," she said with a grin.
The family has also gladly taste -
tested their product line to make
sure it is up to snuff.
"We've tested our products quite
a bit," Triebner said. "I've def-
initely put on weight since we've
opened up."
The Victorian theme ice cream
shop offers 16 flavors of hard ice
cream, sundaes. milkshakes and
novelty ice cream bars.
11 it is sweet 1 got it," said Tri-
cbnei .
Raising money for leukemia
The Second Annual Golf for
Leukemia was held at the
Exeter Golf Club on Sat-
urday. The event is hosted
by the UFCW 617P at Na-
bisco. The prizes included a
Skylark Custom Buick (pic-
tured above) donated by Hu-
ron Motors Product for any
of the participants who shot
a hole -in -one. Over 70 staff
members from Nabisco's
plant in Exeter took part in
the fundraiser. From left,
Mike Sedlak (vice chair of
union), Peter McLeod (ware-
house supervisor) and Terry
Bourne (plant manager).
Clarification
Last week the T -A reported that
South Huron Hospital administrator
Don Curren had applied to the min-
istry of health to receive undcrscr-
viccd designation for the Town of
Exeter.
Curren clarified however that he
has only applied to receive the un-
derserviced application forms.
He is still waiting to hear from
the ministry in regards to receiving
the forms.

Educational ifs and buts
STRATFORD - There is sup-
posed to he $100 million for new
textbooks for Ontario students in
the provincial budget. But, like
everything else, the Avon Maitland
District School Board is finding
there are a lot of "if, ands, and
buts."
Paul Carroll, director of educa-
tion, said the $100 million breaks
down to $150 per student.
However, not everyone agrees it's
new money. if it all comes from the
province, it will not affect the
hoard's budget. Carroll said some
staff believe the hoard will he
responsible for half of the cost.
Again, not all of the information is
available.
And curriculum guidelines and'
resources for the new elementary
science and technology program
haven't been completed yet, said
Marie Parsons, superintendent.
But, teachers have a very •short
timeline to order the text hooks.
Local teachers must order by June
15 in order to meet the hoard's June
23 ordering deadline with the
Ministry of Education and
Training.
"I hope everyone understands
why we arc so frustrated," said
Chairperson Ahhy Armstrong.

"Ontario's communities have played an integral role in Molson's success,"
says Mayne. "This position will allow me to give something back to the area.

beverage industry. He graduated from Georgian College with a diploma in
Business Marketing.
