puts positive spin
on her tragedy

hound'Caroline Acton. is moving on
with her life in more ways than
one.
An accident outside .Dublin, Ire-
land .►n October .13, .1996. Icli Ac-
ton, 72. paralysed froip the mid -
chest down.
The mini -ms Acton and 10 of
her friends had hired to take thorn
out on- the town was rear-ended. A
nian has been charged in the ac-
cident but has yet to he tried.
"The thing that was ironic about-
it
huutit is that we had hired a milli -bus so
no. one would be. drinking and driv-
ing and we were hit by a drunk
driver," Acton said: No one circ in
the bus received. serious injuries.
It took five months of hospital
care, including six weeks in • in-
tensive care. before Acton could
come hone. -
After all the help she's received
from hospitals. especially London's
Parkwood Hospital, to come as far
as she has, Acton is giving. hack.
by participating in the Great Ca-
nadian Race lie Spinal Cord Injury
Research on Jul) I in London.
The annual fundraiser features a
10K run/walk and a 2.3K whet'
chair course.
Acton hopes not to participate in
the 2.3K race. but rather join het
mother Elizabeth in the IOK race.
Though she -has raised about
$400 so far, Acton would like Ir,

juries.
Though doctors tell her she:proh-
ably won't regain much more mo-
bility. Acton is making the must of
life.' -
"I'nt feeling a 'hit • stronger and
I'm trying to get hack to some nor-

talks still
on hold

Meeting held last Wednesday in
Grand Bend _ between the mu-
nicipalities involved in a South Hu-
ron. restructuring study resulted in
a decision to let the issue rest until
after November elections arca
held. . •
• Nearly a year • of talks broke
down afterExeter withdrew as a re-
sult of . compensation • issues re-
garding the Town of Bosanquet.
Councillors from. Exeter, • -Ste-
phen. Usborne. Grand Bend and
Bosanquet attended the informal
meeting. Press .was not included
and minutes were not taken.
The *meeting was held at Grand
Bend's initiative and the .at

• requested a commission he ap-
pointed by the Ministry of Mu-
nicipal Affairs. The minister. re-
sponded he. was disappointed the
involved municipalities couldn't
arrive at a local solution and • in-
dicated a mediator. would not he
appointed..

Summer's. first blooms.
Hensall Hdrticultural Society
members opened 10 of their
gardens to the public for a
;arden walk and party on Sat-
urday. Horticultural Society
President Sybille Schauffler
said everyone had a great
time and enjoyed visiting with
ellow avid gardeners. The So-
ciety would like to hold the
tour again next year. With 58
people attending, the event
raised money for the new
raised flowerbed (above) at
the corner of Wellington and
King Streets in .Hensall. The
Exeter Do -It Centre donated
lumber for the flowerbed.
