Tolmay was in charge of the first
Sunday in Lent church service on
Sunday morning. Rev. Tolmay- lit
seven candles in a candle holder for
each Sunday in Lent and one for
Easter.
The minister told .the children's
story. "Crotl•s Promise to Noah".
Susan Miner put the number 40 on
a poster which will he used the next
Sunday and through to Lent.
The choir sang "One of Your
Children Needs You Lord" accom-
panied by organist Jean Hodgcrt.
Rcv. Jock read passages of scrip-
ture from both the old and new tes-
taments. The congregation read
Psalm 3. The tide of Rev. fol -
May's sermon, was ''Starting All
Over".
John and Laurel Miner received
the offering. The service ended
with the Benediction and Triple
Amen.
Upcoming events
On Fchruary 19 the Joint Session
will meet at 7 p.m, followed by the
Official Board meeting at 8 p.ni. at
Thames Road.
On February 26 I:Iimvillc
L1.C.1V. will hold a politick supper
meeting at 6:30 p.m. The theme
will he an African Safari. Rcv. Tol-
may will show pictures of Africa.
The roll call will he for,everyonc to
bring food for a potluck supper and
to bring their families. All mem-
'hers of the congregation arc wel-
come to attend. The table contlnit-
tee will he Marjorie Johns and
Shirley Cooper.
On March 3 at 8 p.m. the
will hold a meeting. The program
will he presented by Laurel Miner,
Ruth Anne Osgood, Etda Richt and
Marilyn Pym. The roll call will be
'Your dream vacation'. Group U
will serve lunch.
The names of Doris Etford and
Diane Jeffery were omitted from
last week's news of the U.C.W.
meeting. They were winners in the
musical program contest.

EXETER - The evening unit of Exeter United
Church Women gathered in the ladies parlour for their
Valentine's meeting February 3.
• Program leader Carol Moore opened the meeting
with a poen/ "Friendly Silence." Fran Mickle read
scripture. Elaine Skinner led in prayer. Jane Kuepfer,
minister of Seaforth United Church spoke to the group
about her and her husband's trip to Alabama with the
Mennonite Disaster Service to help rebuild a burned
Baptist church in Bulogee last summer. -
• She said racial problems still occur in the deep
south; in fact 70 churches have been burned since
1995 - mostly black ones. Marie Brunzlow thanked
Kuepfer and presented her with a donation.

with a poem "My Grateful Heart is Filled with Love".
Following the secretary's and treasurer's reports, Max-
