Fundraising joint venture
The Ausable Baytleld Conservation Authorityand the Huron County Playhouse have joined

HURON COUNTY It will be .
easier for residents .of . Huron
-County, as well as the rest of .On-
tario, to receive information about
the*. variety of services that are
available to them with the creation
of Community Care Access Centres
(CCACs) by the Minister of Health.
In January of 1997, the Community
Care -.Access Centre for Huron be-
came one of the first operational
CCACs by -amalgamating the for-
mer Home Care . Program and
-Placement Coordination Service.
"The objective is to improve access
to information and services. We in-
tend to have one telephone number
for people to call". said Chief Ex-
ecutive Officer Carole Taylor. This
new organization offers the same or
similar services to those offered in
the past, including: nursing ser -
'vices, professional • therapies
(speech, .physiotherapy;. occupa-
tional therapy). social work, nutri-
tion services, homemaking, per-
sonal support and respite care. The
majority of these services will con-
tinue to be purchased from both
non-profit andprivate agencies.

The fundraising partnership be-
tween the Conservation Foundation
and the- Playhouse forges a new al-
liance to generate 'much needed
funds to -provide programming. _fa
cilities and services in the arca --
conserving nature and providing
cultural attractions.
The Conservation. Foundation is
raising funds through . various
events; like the upcoming Conser-..
vation Dinner, and donations to its
Commemorative Woods program.
The funds help provide outdoor ed-
ucation as well as barrier free trails
and access to' and use of -the various
conservation areas -in the,Ausable---
. Bayfield watershed. '

Country- Playhouse not only pro-
vides 'cultural opportunities in the
arca, it spins off $7 to $8 to the
community's other amenities for
every dollar spent at thc Playhouse.

Ontario Heritage Foundation
honors Lucan
1.1'(';\N - The Ontario Heritage
I'oundatxm recently announced the
name. of 134 recipients honored
under its new Heritage Community
Recognition Program. The program
recognizes local heritage conserva-
tion achievement. Annually, each
municipality can nominate one per-
son who best exemplifies heritage
conservation in their local commu-
nity.
One of the recipients, Michael
Anderson was chosen leader of a
group of volunteers who shared the
dc'arc to establish a museum in Lu-
ca' and preserve the history of the
arca Their slogan was "Remember-
ing Our Past to Establish Our Fu -
resident
Lure." Beginning in April 1995 un
dcr his guidance. the 'group' pro-
duced a display of over 3,50) arti-
facts in a temporary huilding.
Within a . limited budget he has
spearheaded many interesting and
educational projects to raise funds
for a permanent museum site. He
has been instrumental in bringing
well known historians to speak at
dinner meetings and has established
a partnership with several other On-
tario Museums sharing information
and ideas. Currently. he is Presi-
dent of Lucan Area' Heritage. 'a
member of the Lucan Business As-
sociation and sits on the Economic
Development Committee.
