The Strike
By Michael Nedza, Grade 5
Exeter Public School
Once upon a Wednesday, all of
the little green small elves were
hard at work. It was Christmas Day
and all of the jolly little kids on
earth couldn't wait! Outside, there
were the not so polite reindeer.
Comet was the angriest one there.
"Every single year, we have to go
through this torture." Plus, the
storm had been the worst one this
year, but the reindeer had to go. It
was their duty. After a bit of discus-
sion, -Rudolf stood up and said "We
have made a decision. We are go-
ing on strike!" They even made up
'signs that said "Band with: Santa!
Reindeer rule, we strike!" It was
preposterous. No one had seen any-
thing like it. Later on, Santa came
out and said, "I have a surprise for
you guys." They came inside and
they saw it was a shed for them.
They weren't cold any more and
they went around the world that
windy night.
The Christmas Season

Christmas shopping in the mall,
Buying gifts for one and all.
Dozens of presents under the tree,
Nine for my sister and nine for me,
In the Christmas seasons we have a
beautiful tree,
And on Christmas Eve there are
cookies set out by me.
The- fire in the fireplace burns
bright and free,
Warning the imaginary Santa not to
come down the chimney.
'Happy Birthday Jesus, and Merry
Christmas from me.

Holiday fire safety tips
Cook Safely:
Cooking fires are the most common fire in Alberta homes -- and
their numbers increase during the holiday season.
Preventing Cooking Fires:
use a thermostatically controlled deep fat fryer for frying If you
are using a pot, keep a proper fitting lid nearby. If a grease fire
starts, carefully cover the pan with the lid to smother the flames.
never leave frying food or cooking oil unattended on a hot stove.
keep combustible materials such as paper, cardboard and plastics
away from heat sources.
wear short or tight fitting sleeves when cooking. Loose sleeves
can catch fire over the hot stove.
don't store things over or behind the stove. People burn them-
selves reaching over the stove.
avoid cooking when sleepy or drowsy from the influence of medi-
cation or alcohol.
on the stove top, turn pot handles in to prevent children from pull-
ing them down.
do not use defective electric appliances: have them checked and
serviced.
Supervise Children:
Fascination and curiosity about fire can lead a child to play with
matches, lighters or flames within easy reach.
This holiday season, protect your children from fire:
keep matches and lighters out of sight and reach of children.
supervise children at all times when they are in a room with a fire-
place, a Christmas tree, lit candles, space heater or other open
flame or hot surface.
Keep smoker's material out of children's reach. Children in
homes where swglir's live are more likely to,plsy with fire.
Tree Safety:.., ,,.., r<<
A Christmas tree can tighten your house; but make sure it isn't a
fire hazard.
Safety Tips for Christmas Trees:
place the tree away from exits and heat sources.
never decorate a tree with burning candles.
- check tree lights for damaged or loose connections. Discard dam-
aged light sets.
replace buret out bulbs immediately or other bulbs may overheat a

Dear Santa
Hi Santa. My name is Reed Tripp. I
have a sister names Anna. And a
brother named Hayden.
Hayden would like a Batman and
maybe a Robin.
Anna, my sister would like a rattle
because she is little.
I have been a good boy all year for my mommy and
daddy, oh ya! for Grandma too!
I would really like a Gargoyles "Goliath" figurine and
some stone. Because they turn into stone in the
daytime. I would also like a Spiderman projector
package including the Little Spiderman guys.
A new toboggan would be great to play on this
winter. A new winter shovel would be lots of fun to
play with in the snow. Our family will have a surprise
treat for the reindeer and you on Christmas eve.
