THAMES ROAD - The Third
Sunday of Advent church service at
Thames Road United Church was
led by Rev. Jock Tolmay. He told
the children a story about baptism.
Barry and Melonie Miller and
girls lit the Advent candles. Laura
Miller lit the candles, Melonie read
about the candle and Rebecca led in
prayer.
Rev. Tolmay baptized Andrew
Gerald Ross Hodgert, son of Alan
and Michele Hodgert.
The choir sang two anthems ac-
companied by organist Agnes Bray.
Rev. Tolmay read the scriptures
and his sermon was entitled "Sec-
onds, Anyone?"
Ray and Alice Cann received the
offering. The service was closed
with everyone repeating the Bene-
diction and the Triple Amen being
sung in unison.
Next Sunday, December 22 is
Christmas Sunday.
On December 23 there will be a
joint Christmas Concert at Thames
Road at 7 p.m.
On December 24 there will be a
joint Christmas Eve service with
Communion at Elimville United
Church at 7:30 p.m.

with Bill and Joan Schoonder-
woerd of Clinton on Wednesday.
Barbara Miller of Toronto spent
the weekend at her home here.
Dave and Sharon Passmore, Tom
and Jon, held the Passmore Christ-
mas at their home on Sunday.
Gerry and Elda Riehl of Exeter,
Tonya Riehl who recently returned
home from Finland, Kim Riehl of
New Orleans, Jackie Riehl of Strat-
ford, Diane Ellis and Christine of
Waterloo, Ross and Kay Hodgert
of Exeter, Arnold and Marion
Cann, Brad and Jane Cann, Nathan,
Justin and Hayden, and Wayne and
JoAnne, Jayne and Jo -Dee Rowe
attended the baptism of Andrew
Hodgert and then were guests later
with Alan and Michele Hodgert,
Alana and Andrew.
Pat Ballantyne spent the weekend
in Toronto with Dave and Brenda
Moran, Brendan and Alyssa.
Sympathy of the community is
extended to the relatives of the late
Cliff Miller.

SHIPKA - A number of women
from the Shipka area and Green-
way United Church attended the
Christmas Ecumenical, December
10, at St. Johns' Anglican Church,
Grand Bend.
Greenway United Church are
planning a Centennial Celebration
1897-1997 with several special
events during the year.
Ken and Marg Baker enjoyed a
bus trip to Frankenmuth, Michigan,
on Sunday, with the Zurich St. Pe-
ter's Lutheran Church. They also
attended the Christmas concert at
St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in the
evening.
Pat and Jake Schroeder attended
the Kerslake family Christmas (on
Pat's side) last Sunday.
Elliott and Kay Clarke, of B-line
have returned from a ten-day cruise
of the Caribbean and Panama Ca-
nal. They are presently moving into
their home in Grand Bend.
Hugh and Annie Morenz hosted
the Coleman Christmas (on An-
nie's side) last sunday, December
8. They ate their meal at the Dash-
wood restaurant, then went to Mo-
renz's for visiting, games and a gift
exchange. Those attending were
Mary and Art Finlayson, Bill and
Norma Coleman, Les, Jane and Su-
zanne Coleman, John, Carol, Eli-
sha and Brandon Coleman and
Donald Jackson. The guests came
from Seaforth, Kippen, Hensall
area and London.

SAINTSBURY - St. Patrick's
Morning Prayer Service was held
the third Sunday in Advent, De-
cember 15 at 10:30 a.m.
Margaret Carroll was leader for
the service. Kim Kelley read the t
scripture readings, Suzanne Davis
gave the message which had been
prepared by Rose Cunningham who
was ill.
Get well wishes to her from her
friends here at St. Patrick's.
Cody and Brittany Kelley assist-
ed with the lighting of the third
candle in the Advent wreath, repre-
senting joy.
Flowers at the altar were in mem-
ory of the late Marguerite Davis
Greenlee from the Davis family.
December 22 at 10:30 a.m. Rev.
Stanley Jay will be at St. Patrick's
to celebrate the Holy Eucharist,
along with the Children's Christ-
mas Pageant, a time of fellowship
and refreshment to follow in the
Parish Hall with a visit from Santa.
A Christmas Eve and Candlelight

Hazel Davis visited this past
week on Monday with friends and
relatives at the Exeter Villa, Mary
Brown, Blanche Walters, Pat Skin-
ner and Gold Wennerstrom, along
with Georgina Dobbs who was a
patient in South Huron Hospital
but has since returned to the Villa.
Ron and Margaret Carroll attend-
ed the 50th wedding anniversary
celebration honoring Leonard and
Doreen Smith at Lucan on Satur-
day.
Michael and Suzanne Davis,
Crystal, Harley, Travis and Starr
attended the first birthday celebra-
tions for Katherine Theil and Evan
Foran at the home of Hub and
Mary Theil, Zurich on Sunday.

mother Mary Davis this week.
Hugh and Hazel Davis visited
with Jason Daer of New Hamburg
on Sunday.
