Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) was first de-
veloped in Italy In 1937. Often called "shock
treatment", it is still successfully used today
to treat some types of mental illness.
Ever wonder what the word "creatinine" means
on those laboratory orders your doctor gives
you when you need a blood test? Creatinine Is a waste product of
muscle metabolism. By measuring how well you clear creatinine from
your system gives an estimate of how well your kidneys are working.
The formation of cataracts In the eyes Is a part of the natural aging
process, Ake the greying of your hair. Cataracts mean the normally
clear lens in your eye becomes partially opaque. This causes blurring
of vision. Cataract surgery helps the vast majority of people with this
problem.
To relieve the Intense itching of chickenpox, bathe your child daily In
lukewarm water. Adding oatmeal or baking soda to the bath also helps.
Trim the child's fingernails to prevent scratching and between baths,
use cool compresses and dryng lotions like calamine.
