By Liz Sangster Hensall correspondent HENSALL - The Hensall Legion Ladies Auxiliary held their Decem- ber meeting on December 11. Pop- py chairman Larry Uyl gave the re- port on a very successful poppy._. campaign. A total of $2216 was re- alized through the efforts of the community. The Branch extends a sincere "thank you" to all who as- sisted with the door-to-door can- vass, the business people of Zurich, Hensall, and the north end of Exet- er (north of the lights), the schools of Zurich, Hensall, and Brucefield, also to Comrade John Webster for his dedicated help. Sincere sympathy is extended to the Smale family on the loss of Ho- ward who was a dedicated life member of our branch. Solo begins in the new year. The first night of a ten -week series be- gins Thursday January 9 at 7 p.m. Solo players welcome. At Hensall United Church Rev. Henry Annen's message was "Be Joyful". Rev. Annen voiced his thanks for the assistance he had re- ceived the past week. Jerry Tra- quair and Raye Jacobe were the ushers with Cecil Pepper looking after the elevator. John and Veroni- ca Thomson and family lit the third Advent candle. A social hour was enjoyed after the service. All re- ports are due by December 29. The Christmas Eve and Communion service will be held December 24 at 7:30 p.m. Hensall Carmel Presbyterian Church Christmas Eve service will be held on December 24 at 7 p.m. Dog owners Dog owners within the Village of Hensall are advised that dog tags for 1997 are now available from the Hensall Municipal Office - just in time for Christmas giving! Tags are the same price as 1996. Tags not purchased by March 15, 1997 are subject to a late payment penal- ty of $15.00. Christmas trees will be collected in the Village of Hensall on Mon- day, January 6, 1997. Trees must be at the curb by 7 a.m., and be free of all decorations, plastic and tree bags. The Chief Building Official ser- vices are now on a by appointment basis only, in the Village of Hen- sall. Residents and property owners requiring an appointment must con- tact the Village Office by noon, Thursday -- appointments are ar- ranged for Fridays. To schedule, please call 262-2812. Bryanston Friendship Club donates to Salvation Army BRYANSTON - The Bryanston Friendship Club met at Wesley Church on December 4 at 12.30 p.m. and the women served a tur- key dinner. At the end of the meal the Bryanston Optimists gave each one a carrot bread in a jar. The meeting opened with singing '0 Canada' and Alex Jeffrey read a poem. Birthdays in December were Ada Smith, Mona Maybury and Alex Jeffrey and the anniversary of Au- drey and Elliott McRoberts. The secretary and treasurer's re- ports were read.
