Playhouse. ends year on financIal high
GRAND BEND - The Annual
General Meeting of the Huron
Country Playhouse was held at
Oakwood Inn on Saturday.
Huron Country Playhouse treas-
urer, Al Skinner reported a surplus
of $44,850 for the year ending Sep-
tember 30. This surplus, combined
with attendance records of 66,710
or 92.2 per cent, has put the 1996
season in the books as one of the
most successful in Playhouse histo-
ry.
Chairman of the meeting, Shirley
McIntyre, described the 25th anni-
versary year as one of the most
challenging, yet successful in the
theatre's history. McIntyre also ex-
pressed the board's pleasure and
confidence in the theatre's new
management team - Gloria
Day,Executive Producer; Brian
McKay, Artistic Director; Simon
Day, General Manager.
The election of officers for the
Board of Directors was proposed
by the Nomination Committee
Chair, Jack Southcott. The new
board of directors for Huron Coun-
try Playhouse was elected as fol-
lows;
Bryan Beattie - President; Shirley
McIntyre - Past president, Guild
Rep; Charles Baxter - First vice-
president; Molly Russell - Second
vice-president; Al Skinner - Treas-
urer; Joe Wooden - Secretary; Dr.
Linda Steele - Executive director;
Jack Southcott - Executive director;
Board members - Mary Bunion,
Glenda Burrell, Elia Douglas, Doug
Ellison, Wayne McLachlan, David
Nash, Betsy Rowecliffe, Dona Ste-

STEPHEN TOWNSHIP , - At its
Nov. 19 meeting, council passed a
motion that Administrator Larry
Brown and Reeve Bill Weber ar-
range a meeting with MPP Helen
Johns with regard to the provincial
initiative to study the disposition
of the Ontario Development Corpo-
ration facilities in Huron Park.
Council also will request Johns
meet with the Minister of the Envi-
ronment and the township Sewage
Liaison Committee to discuss is-
sues regarding the provision of
sewage services to the provincially
owned Ontario Development Cor-
poration property at Huron Park.
In other matters, council will ob-
tain legal advice and advertise for
private contractors to cut and re-
move trees from the township road-
side. The township has agreed to
participate in the Bluewater Recy-
cling Christmas Tress chipping
program. It was suggested the lo-
cation for the Stephen site be the
Bluewater facility in Huron Park.
Council passed a motion that the
clerk and reeve be authorized to en-
ter into an agreement with
1192518 Ontario Ltd. (Lewis Dis-
posal) for the 1997 garbage collec-
tion contract.

Council accepted the Town of
Exeter's proposal for building in-
spector services for a six month
period up to a maximum of 150
hours. The proposal outlined a
charge of $27.50 per hour, plus 5
per cent overhead charge and mile-
age at $.30 per kilometer. If the in-
spector is required to attend meet-
ings outside normal working hours,
the township will be billed $20 per
hour.
Alsq, a public meeting regarding
an expansion of Huron Motor Prod-
ucts was held.
