HENSALL - About 150 people
braved the elements of the weather
to take in the 11th annual Tree -
Lighting Festivities on Sunday eve-
ning, December 1. Prior to the
lighting of the tree, folks enjoyed
an open house in the upstairs of the
Village Hall. The hall was decorat-
ed by members of the Hensall Eco-
nomic Development Committee in
a Victorian Christmas theme. The
winner in the best Victorian cos-
tume category was Rachael Towle
who for her effort, received a vil-
lage mascot puppet and key fob.
Thanks to Hensall Public School,
the children in Mrs. Hogarth's
class who made the paper chains
and to Mrs. Nicholson's class who
made the snowflakes for decoration
upstairs.
And of course the tree was lit
successfully. Thanks to Bill
McGregor, HEDC member who
donated the live tree to be decorat-
ed for this years event. Rev. Annen
delivered the spiritual message. A
historical plaque was unveiled com-
memorating the founding of the vil-
lage and is mounted on the front of
the building. This was a plaque re-
placement project undertaken by
the Hensall Economic Develop-
ment Committee as the previous
plaque was post mounted and had
been vandalized.
The strong westerly wind did not
stop the jolly old elf from arriving
right on time under the guidance of
pilot
Donny and co-pilot Brian. After
handing out candy canes to the
children, folks followed Santa back
upstairs where they enjoyed hot
dogs and hot chocolate. Shortly be=-
fore 7, Santa led kids (young and
old) to the arena where skating was
enjoyed by all. Even Santa laced
up his skates -and did a.few laps.
The Honk!! Economic Develop-
ment . Committee would like to
thank all those who helped in mak-
ing this event an enjoyable evening
for all.
