Chaos In the crease. Lucan Irish forward Bob Grant flies through the air going after the puck
during a goal -mouth scramble during a game against Ayr on Wednesday night. Lucan went on
a six -goal scoring drive in the third period to take a convincing 9-2 win.
Lucan Irish on a two game win
streak and ready to play Exeter
LUCAN - The Lucan Irish
snapped a two game losing streak
by defeating Ayr last Wednesday
and North Middlesex on Saturday.
After losing to Mount Brydges
and Seaforth recently, the Irish re-
bounded with a solid team effort
demolishing Ayr 9-2 at home last
week.
Despite out shooting their op-
ponents 38-8 in the first two pe-
riods Lucan headed into the last
frame with only a two goal lead,
but the Ayr goalie ran out of tricks
early allowing four consecutive
goals.
The embarrassment was too
much for him as he took himself
out of the play midway through the
period.
"I thought; their goalie was un-
believable," said Irish coach
George Pratt crediting the Ayr net -
minder for keeping his team in the
game after stopping 22 shots in the
first period alone. "Too bad he
didn't have a supporting cast."
Veteran Mike Robb led the way
for Lucan by scoring three goals in
the third period. He rounded off his
hat trick with an unassisted solo ef-
fort late in the game. Andy Mar-
shall, Roy Davis, Steve Hudson,
Adam Duskocy, George Stephens
and Greg Henderson also contrib-
uted goals.
Beating a weak team by eight
goals has it's disadvantages, and
Pratt is well aware of it.
"There's a danger of lowering
yourself to their level of play, but
we can't do that. We have to keep
playing hard no matter what the
score is," he said.
The one-sided victory didn't
phase the Irish who went on to de-
feat the North Middlesex Stars in
Parkhill on Saturday.
The North Middlesex club has a
reputation of giving some of the
Exeter will host blank Aylmer
better teams in the league a hard
time with their rough and physical
style of play, however, the Irish had
no trouble posting a 6-4 win over
the Stars.
"They're just like any other team.
You have to come ready to play
every night or else you're going to
get beat," said team manager Ken
Freeman.
Bob Grant scored twice for Lu -
can while George Stephens and
Ryan Baynham added one goal
each.
Lucan will not play on Wednes-
day (tonight) and are in the midst
of a seven day rest as they prepare
to host the Exeter Hawks on Sat-
urday night.
The Irish halted Exeter's winning
streak by ' handing them their first
loss of the season earlier this month
and are itching to repeat the effort.
Exeter Chiefs
Junior "B" hockey
EXETER - The closest Junior "B" team to Exeter will make a rare
appearance at the South Huron Recreation Centre on Saturday as
The St Marys Lincolns take on the Petrolia Jets in a regular league
game.
The event is sponsored by the Rec Centre and is being organized
in conjunction with Youth Awareness Week.
Lynne Farquhar, recreation director, said the Optimists, the Lions
Club, South Huron Big Bothers and Sisters Association and church
youth groups were invited to enjoy the game which is being billed as
an event for area children and youths.
"We wanted to do something a little different for the kids," said
Farquhar adding prizes will he literally tossed out to the audience in
between periods. "We're going to throw numbered frisbees out and
a prize is designated for each number," she said,
Children are admitted to the game for free, it costs $2.50 for teen-
agers and $5 for adults.
Don Richardson, is a member of the Recreation Board of Directors
and a scout for the Lincolns. He is also a member of the Kirkton Op-
timist Club and he arranged the game very early in the season as a
special event for kids and hockey fans.
Even though St Marys has struggled this season with a 2-18-1
record (as of Nov. 20), and has recently undergone a coaching staff
shake-up, Richardson doesn't think the game will be a blow-out
when they meet Petrolia, the first place team in the league.
"St Marys will be in the game if they play a full 60 minutes," said
Richardson. "Either way, there are Junior "A" prospects playing on
both teams...it should be a fast and entertaining hockey game."
Exeter Tee Kwon Do students brought back medals from
the Ontario Classics tournament held In Toronto last
weekend. From back row left, Davey Nickel won two gold
medals, one In sparring the other in pattern. Tim Nickel
won silver in sparring, Mike Wagner won silver in sparring,
and Adam Rathwell, center, won gold In sparring. Absent
is Michael Henry who won silver in sparring and pattern.
AYLMER - Goalie Nathan Hem
and forwards Ryan Beckett and
Matt Froud led the Exeter Chiefs to
a 3-0 victory over Aylmer on Sun-
day night.
Backed up behind a red hot goal -
tender the Chief's five defensman
worked hard to fend off Aylmer,
one of the more talented teams Ex-
eter has faced so far this season.
Froud turned up the heat scoring
once and assisting Beckett on both
of his goals. Beckett's second goal
came off a blast from the top of the
circle that beat the goalie cleanly.
"I didn't think he could shoot that
hard," said coach Henri deBruyn.
"He put the puck through the goalie
not by him."
The rough and chippy contest was
halted with seven minutes left to
play once the game reached it's cur-
few. DeBruyn said there were more
than 50 penalty minutes called
throughout the WWF style match,
sending it past its two hour time
limit, but added it didn't make a
difference as Exeter recorded a
sound victory.
With a 4-2-1 record, the Chiefs
will take to the road on Sunday to
play Tillsonburg. Their next home
game will take place on Dec 7
when they host Waterford.
