FOREST - automobile insu-
rance act has amended in re-
gards to the offence of operating a
motor vehicle with no insurance.
Drivers, upon being convicted of
operating without being properly
insured will be fined S5,00Q.00 for
the first offence.
Effective November 29, 1996, at
12:01 a.m., drivers of a motor vehi-
cle who have been charged with op-
eration of a motor vehicle with over
80 milligrams of alcohol in 100
millilitres of blood, fail or refuse to
provide breath samples for analysis
will receive an automatic 90 day
suspension of his/her driving privi-
leges.
This also applies to operators of
motorized snow vehicles. The Ad-
ministrative Drivers Licence Sus-
pension initiative is intended to re-
move drinking drivers from the
roads.
It should be noted that this sus-
pension is independent of any
Criminal Code drinking and driving
charge being laid.
