Hay residents encouraged to
get Christmas decorations up
Judging will take
place December 18
and 19.

ZURICH - The Lions Club's last
dinner meeting was held at the Do-
minion Tavern on November 13
with 14 Lions present and their
guests.
The speaker was Governor Lion
Don Robertson of Woodstock. The
Lion's Club delivered the new
phone books in the Village on Sat-
urday. If you were missed, phone
Lions president Lenis Willert. The
old phone books can he put in the
blue box to be recycled.
The next meeting will be held at
the Hotel on December Il at 7
p.m., with their annual Christmas
party and ladies night.
The Chamber of Commerce din-
ner meeting was held at the Domin-
ion Tavern on November 19.
The next euchre party will he
held at the township hall on No-
vember 25 at 7:30 p.m. sponsored
by the Golden Agers. The cost is $2
at the door, which includes lunch
and door prizes.
Approximately 70 people attend-
ed the annual bean festival appreci-
ation dinner held at the Dominion
Tavern on Sunday night.
Jody Durand will he the president
for the coming year, Cynthia
Strickland the secretary and Mi-
chelle and Brian DePaepe will he
treasurers.
Donna Thiel will head the kitch-
en duties.
The birthday party for November
birthdays at the Blue Water Rest
home was held last Tuesday with a
program provided by the Lutheran
Church women under the direction
of Marie Deichert and Donna
Klopp.
A cast of 22 people presented a
biblical fashion show
Several people. from the Zurich
attended the Christmas Fashion
Fantasy Show held at the Recrea-
tion Centre in Exeter on November
14 in support of the Huron County
Christmas Bureau.
Canned goods were collected at
the door and tags on an angel tree
were taken to purchase toys for the
children. Several models presented
clothes from stores in Exeter. Me-
lissa Welsh from the Zurich area
was one of the models. Door prizes
were handed out.
This same project is now taking
place at the Bank of Montreal in
Zurich.
Residents of Hay Township are
reminded to put up their Christmas
lights and decorations ready for the
Hay Days final event and draw to
be held December I for a trip for
two to Frankenmuth, Michigan.
There will also he a judging for
Christmas decorations on Decem-
ber 18 and 19.

A babysitting course was taken
by 12 youth over two days at the
public school. Instructor was Mary
Ellen Groves of Huron Park, under
the direction of the Optimist Club
in Zurich.
The next Fair Board meeting will
be held November 27 at the home
of Claire and Margaret Deichert at
RR I Zurich at 8 p.m.
A good time was held by those
attending the Hay Days Ole Fash-
ioned Hoe Down on Saturday at
the Dashwood Arena.
Music was provided by Ivan Nor-
ris and his group with several
square dances and other unique
steps. Lunch was served and sever-
al door prizes were won. •

from any of the six main Hay Days
events held throughout the year are

possible.
Public skating will be held at the
Zurich Arena on Saturdays and
Sundays from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. for
$1 per person, unless there is a
hockey tournament scheduled.
St. Boniface Catholic Women's
league held it's meeting on No-
vember 19 following Mass for vo-
cations.
The special speaker for the eve-
ning was Muriel Murphy who is
president of the London Diocese
Council.

Family, friends and relatives at-
tended the 50th anniversary cele-
bration of Mildred and Ed Kauf-
mann from Scarborough, held at
St. Peter's Lutheran fellowship hall
Exeter UCW meet
EXETER - Doris Denham opened a recent meeting of the Afternoon
unit of the Exeter U.C.W. with thoughts for Armistice Day. Thirty-six
members answered the roll call with an autumn pleasure. Helen Coates re-
minded the group that Huron -Perth annual meeting will be held in Exeter
next February.
Help. with costumes for the Sunday School Christmas concert was re-
quested. It was decided to bring gifts for children for the Christmas Bu-
reau to the December meeting.
The program was presented by Florence Finkbeiner's group on • the
theme "Peace".
Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Graham sang for the group. Robert gave a
message from John 14. They were thanked and presented with a gift.
Gladys McDonald read a poem about the wearing of poppies and led the
group in the UCW Benediction.

Bob and June Fisher celebrated
their 40th anniversary on Novem-
ber 17.

Joe and Marlene Denomme of
Waterloo spent the weekend visit-
ing with his mother, Juliette De-
nomme.
The family of Beatrice Rader
helped her celebrate her 80th birth-
day last weekend with daughters
Joan and Dr. Ed MacAulay coming
from Truro, Nova Scotia; and
Catherine and Clair Zurbrigg com-
ing from Kitchener.
A family dinner was held at
Erb's Country Kitchen on Saturday
night with an open house at the
Blue Water Rest Home on Sun-
day. Those attending came from
North Bay, Detroit, South River,
Woodstock, Kitchener and the Zu-
rich area.
Her three grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren were also
present. Members of the Auxiliary
helped serve lunch.
Anneka Zehr and her mother
Ruth accompanied instructor Adri-
aan Brand and other members of
the riding club to the Royal Winter
Fair in Toronto recently. The high-
light was seeing the Nation's Cup.
Equestrian teams participating
were France, Sweden, U.S.A. and
Canada.
They also seen Ian Miller riding
in the show with his horse My Girl,
who had recently been at the Olym-
pic Games in Atlanta.
Cliff Pepper of RR 1 Dashwood
was once again one of the poultry
judges at the Royal Winter Fair.
