Private physiotherapist
opens clinic in Exeter
EXETER - Exeter has a new
drawing card as an urban hub in
Huron County with the opening of
South Huron Physiotherapy at 305
Main Street.
Not to be confused with Massage
Therapy, Kate Burpee is a physio-
therapist who recently graduated
from the University of Western On-
tario and holds degrees in both
Kinesiology and Physical Therapy.
Burpee chose Exeter to locate her
private clinic because there is no
such service between London and
Goderich, where a clinic has only
recently been established. This
leaves a population of nearly
20,000 people who are served only
by local hospitals where some wait-
ing lists are nearly four months
long.
After working in a London pri-
vate clinic and being involved with
home care as well as industrial re-
habilitation, Burpee opened her
own clinic on September 3. She
has long visited her cottage in
Grand Bend and has become fa-
miliar with the communities along
the Lake Huron shoreline.
At present Burpee is the only
therapist at South Huron Physio-
therapy but long term plans in-
clude incorporating other dis-
ciplines such as massage therapy
into her rehabilitation approach.
Patients may he walk-ins or may
come from doctor or worker com-
pensation referrals. Although pri-

vale clinic patients pay out-of-
pocket for treatment, they can now
be seen in a much shorter time and
avoid long-distance travel.
Burpec says she iS
able to tailor treat-
ment for each patient
based on their needs.
This can include pas-
sive treatment, such
as hydrotherapy and
muscle stimulation,
as well as exercise
programs. Education
key part of treatment.
"A lot of it is self-directed treat-
ment," explained Burpee.
Although each case if different,
Burpee begins treatment with a
thorough assessment that includes
recording a history. Sessions can
be private or in a healthclub at-
mosphere in the front room where
Burpee has set up a wide variety of
strength, balance and stretching
equipment. Already she has seen
nearly 50 patients with a variety of
problems ranging from low back
pain to tennis elbow. She says
many of the people she sees suffer
from work-related in-
juries and need to have
quick treatment to resolve
the problems.

therapy will hold a pro-
fessional open house on
Nov. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m.

A well prepared resume will help you
get the job you are looking for!
A resume detailing an applicant's work history and
education is extremely helpful to an employer who
is seeking a person for a specific job vacancy.
Your personal resume should accompany
your letter of application.
Here are some guidelines to follow in preparing your resume:
O Make it clear, concise and easy to read - and no longer
than two pages
O The resume should be typed on 8 1/2" x 11" white paper
with enough white space to prevent a cluttered look
O Start with your name, address and phone number
O Next under a sub -heading "Work History" detail the
previous jobs you've held - in reverse date order
- that is, last job first.
❑ Use a separate paragraph for each position and
precede it with the dates you held that position.
O State the job title, a brief description of the
responsibilities - and the results you achieved.
O The next section of your resume should come under the
sub -heading of "Education". Start with the highest
degree obtained or grade completed, followed by the
name of the institution at which you studied. Follow
this with previous education attainments. At the end,
list any specific instructional courses you have
attended in conjunction with your work.
❑ Under the sub -heading "Affiliations", list memberships
and/or offices held in professional or industry
associations.
O Under the sub -heading "Personal Interests" list any
activities which you feel will be of interest to the
employer - such as volunteer work, etc.
Your letter of application and your resume will be the
factors that make the employer decide whether to short
list you for an Interview. So make It as Impressive
as you can - but stick to the facts.
We can help you get an impressive and
professional -looking resume
