Dashwood seniors enjoy card games DASHWOOD - The Dashwood Seniors met October 21 at 7:30 - p.m. at the Community Hall with 41 members and one visitor present. A business meeting was chaired by President Velma Russell. She told two humorous stories and Do- reen Lightfoot gave a reading. En- tertainment featured Willy Desjar- Jine on fiddle, accompanied by Marian Homer on the piano. A ight lunch was served and the re- mainder of the evening was spent socializing and card playing. By Mary Peterson Centralia correspondent CENTRALIA - Spooks and witches and all kinds of creatures attended the annual Halloween par- ty at Centralia Community Centre on October 31. Approximately 65 children and their parents took part in this year's event. The children paraded to show off their costumes while the judges tried to select among the many in- teresting choices. Judges were Tom and Dorothy Houston and Dianne Andrews. Prize winners were: Ja- mie Van Vliet - Best Halloween character; Tina Dinney - Best girl's homemade costume; Luke Kenne- dy - Best boy's homemade cos- tume; Jeffery Van Bergen - most unusual costume; Ryan Groves - Best TV character; Matthew McHuslan - Scariest costume; Kyle Veri - Best dressed (five and un- der); Eric Duenk - Best dressed (six and over); Andrew Pache - Best an- imal costume; Jackie Lather - Best (in general). Members of the congregations from Centralia and Zion United Churches are invited to join in the celebration of marriage for Pastor Heather Smith and Rev. Peter Scott. The service will be held at Centralia at 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 9. In lieu of wedding gifts, donations to the Mission and Services Fund are suggested. Remembrance Day will be cele- brated with an intergenerational service on November 10 at Central- ia and Zion United Churches. Rob Essery will be guest speaker. Centralia United Church will host their annual turkey supper on November 15. There will be a sit- ting at 5 p.m. and also at 6:30 p.m. Tickets (advance only) are $9.50 for adults and $4.75 for children ages six to 12. At Heywood's Restaurant recent- ly, the Special was won by Archie Etherington, Eileen Rollings and Harvey Latta were High Hand win- ners. Lone hand winners were Hel- en MacDonald and Howard Dolan. Stephen Central Public School students raised $78 for the United Way by donating cans of food. In appreciation, the stu- dents were allowed to wear hats during the day. Healthy cooking class to be held LUCAN - Lucan area resident Linda Salts will hold a three-hour cooking class on Nov. 16 in an ef- fort to teach people how to cook healthier breakfasts for children. The new Healthy Breakfasts - Happier Kids workshop will in- volve cooking with whole grains and following recipes that are sug- ar -free, dairy -free and wheat -free. "I see the need," said Salts, a public school teacher who studies holistic nutrition.
