By Carmel Sweeney Zurich correspondent ZURICH - The recent St. Boni- face Parish C.W.L. bazaar was a big success. There were several winners on the merchants table (penny sale). The raffle draws were won by: Barb Rau (two boxes of groceries); Helen Creces ($50 money tree); Elaine Groot (wooden letter hold- er). Other draws were won by: There- sa Stark (baby quilt); Coby Van Den Boomen (fruit basket); Mary Regier (stone bird house); Julie Coleman (doll and baby clothes); Fr. Wronksi (Sunday School varie- ty pack); Cecilia Farwell (fruit bas- ket); Rose -Mary Bedard (family game); Alicia Pennings (candy guess). The Seaforth Harmony Kings Barbershop group are selling tick- ets for a Christmas dinner and dance on December 7 at the Sea - forth Community Centre at $25 per person. On Sunday the congregation of St. Peter's Lutheran Church en- joyed a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings as they celebrated their 135th anniversary and the burning of the mortgage on their fellowship hall. There will be a fall bazaar, bake sale and tea at the Blue Water Rest Home this Saturday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Several members of the Wom- en's Institute went to the Lambton Heritage Museum on November 4. Six women from St. Boniface C.W.L. attended a Deanery meet- ing in St. Marys last Wednesday, along with some C.W.L. members from St. Peter's Parish, St. Joseph. The Optimist Club are sponsor- ing a free family bowling day at the Town and Country lanes in Zurich - on November 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. Phone Tony for reservations. The Golden Agers will be meet- ing November 11 at 2 p.m. at the Township Hall. Their next card party will be held November 25 at 7:30 p.m. Members of the Zurich United Church recently celebrated their 122nd anniversary on October 27. Special speaker for the occasion was Rev. Robert Graham from Hu- ron Park. Trumpet music was played by Leona McBride accom- panied by Ellen Graham. Brenda Grenier was a winner in the Chamber of Commerce draw. The November draw is a night at the Holiday Inn, Toronto and tick- ets to a performance of "Beauty and the Beast". The next draw will be held on the first Saturday in De- cember. After 17 years of service to the community, the Tenderspot Gro- cery Store closed up in Zurich on Saturday. Many friends of the Masse family will miss them and the store a great deal. The Optimist Club babysitting course for 12 -year-olds has been changed to Friday night, November 15 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Zu- rich Public School, then again on Saturday morning November 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants are to bring a brown bag lunch for Saturday. Thirteen members of the Agricul- tural Society attended the annual dinner meeting in Milverton on Oc- tober 29. Personals Babies baptized at St. Boniface Church recently by Fr. Wronski were: Jenna Marie Bedard, daugh- ter of Karmen and Lisa; Alexandra Adella Finley, daughter of Doug and Joanne; Kaylee Mary Koloff, daughter of Kyle and Jo -Anne. Sympathy of the community goes to the relatives of Mike Walker, who passed away on October 24. Several friends and relatives at- tended the funeral of Madeline Ge- linas in Sarnia last Wednesday. An open house will be held for Stewart Thiel on November 9 at the Lutheran Church Hall in honor of his 80th birthday, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. for friends and relatives. Happy 80th birthday wishes to Beatrice Rader who will be having an open house for friends and rela- tives on November 10 at the Blu- Water Rest Home. Happy birthday wishes go to Hei- di Klopp on November 11 and to Joe Boyle, also on November 11. Beattie Geoffrey was home from the hospital for the weekend. She is recuperating from a recent knee op- eration. A get-together and dinner was held at the home of Earl and Do- reen Oesch on Saturday with her sisters and brothers coming from Kitchener and the Zurich area. Andy and Ruth Amanse returned home to California after visiting with brother Brad Clausius and family and her mother Irene Clau- sius in Exeter. They also attended the wedding of Mark and Cathi Clausius in October. Andy and Sue Markson of Ver- non, B.C. returned home after spending a week with her mother, Helen Walker, and attending her brother's funeral. Arnold and Coby Vandeboomen have their ninth grandchild, a girl born to daughter Trudy and Andy Groenestege of RR 2, Gadshill. Her name is Alexa Nicole and she arrived on October 29. Pat Raftis is leaving the Zurich newspaper office to work in Wal- kerton at another newspaper office. In the pumpkin patch Students from Tinker Tots Nursery School went on a pumpkin hunt recently. The pumpkins were donated by Bob Reynolds. Turkey and all the trimmings for Thanksgiving din- ner was served. Rev. Kevin Rut- ledge from Exeter Baptist Church was the speaker who gave an ap- propriate Thanksgiving message. "The goodness of God" and "In everything give thanks". Several answered the question, "What are you most thankful for?" Lots of different answers were submitted including good health, friends and family. Ruth Arthur gave a reading entitled "Fill your heart with Thanksgiving". Marguerite Thomas from the Huron County Health Unit also joined us in Oc- tober to speak to about "Active Living for Seniors". Thomas made many good points in her presentation. Many tips were giv- en on safety in the home and out- side. Also, she stressed that activ- ity should be a rad of your daily life with regular exercise. Activi- ty may not add years of your life, but it can add life to your years and it is a way to stay in shape. "Life is wonderful, Life is Sweet. If you want to prolong it, move your feet." All enjoyed the pup- pets Eddie and Biddy Cammack entertained with on October 22. For the Halloween celebration on October 29, many were decked out in costume. Keyboard players for October were Jean Hodgert, Wilma Da- vis, Josie Ryckman, and Maxine Sereda.
