Adopt -A -Highway
Residents of Riverview Estates participated in an Adopt -A -Highway program last Monday
morning and picked up eight bags of garbage along a 3.2 km stretch of Highway 83. They

HENSALL - Queensway Pastoral
Care Volunteer, Winnie Hutton led
a memorial service for Martha
Moody and Tom Slavin, Tuesday
afternoon. We will miss both Mar-
tha and Tom who passed away re-
cently.
The Lakeview Mennonite Singers
sang for residents Tuesday evening.
Their group sang beautifully and
we appreciate their visits every oth-
er month. Thank you also to volun-
teer Marg Cole for assisting at the
program.
Thursday evening diners enjoyed
a supper of turkey and all the trim-
mings. We were pleased to have
them join us for the monthly birth-
day party with Marie Flynn and
The Huron Singers. Along with the
usual great music, Marie brought
long several line dancers to enter-
tain.

Shlpka residents attend reunions
More than 60 attend-
ed the Coleman reun-
ion....

SHIPKA - The annual Russell re-
union was held this year at Wheatly
Provincial Park. The Greg Russell
family of Leamington were in
charge of sports. More than 50
were in attendance. From this area
were Cliff and Velma of Dash-
wood, Doug and Ann and Eliza-
beth, Bruce and Judy and family,
Tom and Rosanne and family of
Essex.
Ken and Marg Baker, have re-
turned from a ten day holiday trip
to Dover, Tennessee, to visit Ken's
daughter Nancy, her husband Dr.
Glenn Babich, Philip, Sandra and
Sarah. The Babich family moved
last year from Lethbridge Alberta
to the USA.
Coleman reunion
More than 60 attended the "Cole-
man" reunion picnic held Sunday
July 21 at Seaforth Lions Park,
coming from the areas of Denfield,
London, Stratford, Orillia, Auburn,
Seaforth, Zurich, Hensall, Kippen,
Shipka, Burlington. A good line of
sports was conducted by Gladys
Talbot and family that included re-
lays, crab walk, sack race, running
races, guessing gummy worms, wa-
ter balloons and kick the shoe.
An adult name -o contest was
won by Mary Finlayson. Special
prizes awarded went to Mark Cart-
wright of Denfield for biggest
smile, Grace Chapman of Seaforth
as oldest person, Brandon Coleman
of Kippen youngest person, far-
thest distance were cousins from
Orillia, and birthday right on July
21 Annie Morenz.
After a delicious smorgasbord
supper President, Bill Uhler of Bur-
lington conducted business. Next
picnic will be in 1998 at Lions
Park Seaforth. Officers elected
were, President, Jim Chapman 1st
vice president, Jack Coleman, 2nd
vice president, Brad Finlayson, sec-
retary, Teresa Finlayson, treasurer
Joan Whyte. Sports committee,
Brad Finlayson, Brenda Empey
and Diane March.

his sister, Hazel Crobett in Hensall.

The annual pork barbecue held
July 24 at Shipka Community Cen-
ter was most successful and en-
joyed by all. Proceeds will go to
improvements at the Community
Centre. A 50-50 draw was won by
Evelyn Pickering.
Alaska cruise
Mary Moser and her friend Jean
Taylor returned July 18 from a 10
day cruise to Alaska. They left
from Vancouver through the inside
passage with stops at Ketchikan,
Juneau and . Sitka and Seward.
From there they disembarked and
then a 3 1t2 hour bus ride to An-
chorage.
Evelyn Nicholson, of Courtright
visited recently with her sisters
Dorothy Fenner and Mabel Fraser.
