New store opens
EXETER - The Board of Directors of Hensall Dis-
trict Co-operative (HDC) is pleased to announce the
opening of the new Exeter Co-op Do-lt Center in Ex-
eter.
The Dolt franchise is a large home renovations
franchise operating with independent retailers in Can-
ada and the United States. The Do -It franchise pro-
vides an aggressive marketing program with the ad-
vantage of combined volume purchases to ensure
competitive prices and services. There are over 500
Do -It Centers in Canada and the United States. The
HDC Do -It Centers are serviced by the Sodisco-
Howden Group who is the franchiser for Do -It Center
Stores in Canada as well as Pro Hardware and Novi -
co Hardware Stores.
The new Exeter store will be the largest of the
HDC retail outlets with a combined square footage of
over 30,000 sq. ft. including storage warehouses and
a drive through warehouse for convenient loading of
building materials and store products. The facility is a
state of the art retail outlet that will provide the popu-
lation of Exeter and surrounding area with product
and services normally found in larger urban commu-
nities. The Exeter Dolt Center will offer to its cus-
tomers a well trained and experienced staff who's
goal is making customer service their number one
priority. This store will help re-inforce Exeter as a vi-
brant and viable regional shopping center which pro-
vides the town and surrounding communities with a
wide variety of services, competitive prices and se-
lection of products.
The new Do -It center will employ more than 30
people and offer a wide range of products and servic-
es such as:
• Lumber and building materials • Delivery Service
• Hardware • Contractor Desk • Electrical and Plumb-
ing products • Computerized deck designing • Major
plumbing fixtures • Computerized garage designing •
Small engine repair • In-store demonstrations • Feed,
fertilizer • Free estimations on buildings • Farm prod-
ucts and hardware • Paint mixing
• Barn ventilation products • Fencing supplies • Pet
food and supplies • Lawn & garden supplies • Work
clothing and footwear • Visa, Mastercard, Do -it Card
• Debit card and a complete rental shop
A Contractor Department and entrance is located at
the back of the store with quick access and service
for the contractor -farmer who requires assistance in
ordering and plan take -offs. This is a vital part of the
Do -it Center business and our employees are well
trained and experienced for working with the trades.
Also located in the Do -It Center will be a Rental
Stop tool rental service which will provide competi-
tive rental cost on a wide range of tools and products
such as: • Shop Vacuums • Pumps • Scaffolding •
Power tools • Saws • Lawn and garden equipment
A rental card with the rates and full range of prod-
uct for rent is available at the rental desk.
The store will also offer a small engine repair shop
of sales and service of lawn equipment and snow -
throwers.
Hours of operation for the new store will be: Mon-
day to Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Friday 7:00
a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and
Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
HDC is a locally owned and managed Co-operative
that is involved in the processing of beans, corn,
wheat, fertilizer, the manufacturing of feed, manag-
ing grain elevators, distribution of propane and petro-
leum products and crop protection chemicals. HDC
also operates 7 retail outlets under the Do -It fran-
shise banner. These stores are located in Forest, Park-
hill, Ilderton, Ailsa Craig, Exeter, Zurich and Sea -
forth. HDC employees 180 full time and
approximately 50 part time people. The administra-
tive and accounting office of HDC is located in Hen-
sall, Ontario. Total sales for the entire operations are
$115,000,000.00 annually. HDC is committed to
serving the rural community with a wide variety of
services and products.
This major investment into the Exeter community
is to demonstrate the HDC commitment to providing
exceptional product and services and strengthen the
economic structure of the rural area.
Chuck Mallette, manager of the Exeter Co-op
Branch will assume the duties as manager of the new
Exeter Do -It Center.

Grand Opening
Funding announced for the Huron Perth Hospital
and related Health Services Study
MITCHELL - A major step was
taken towards restructuring health
services in Huron Perth Thursday
with the announced approval of
funding for a Hospital and Related
Health Services Study. The an-
nouncement was made on behalf of.
the Health Minister, Jim Wilson by
Helen Johns, MPP for Huron and
Parliamentary Assistant to Health,
and Pert MPP Bert Johnson.
The Huron Perth District Health
Council will be leading the study
which is expected to last six
months. The ministry is investing
S260,500 in the study.
"I would like to commend your
council and staff on the quality of
the proposal," said Johns. "I was
particularly imipressed wit hte in-
novative, cost effective approach
you are taking."
"It is exactly this kind of progres-
sive thinking and enthusiastic com-
mitment that will move our health
system forward quickly" said John-
son. "These people face enormous
challenges in the next few months
and we thank them for their dedica-
tion to their communities."
"This study is essential to ensure
that the healthcare needs of Huron
Perth residents remain in the fore-
front," said Fraser Bell, Executive
Director of HPDHC. "The study
will provide the opportunity to
maximize the effective use of
available resources in order to en-
sure high quality, accessible care
and services."
Council Chair Deb Campbell
noted that local planning ensures
that the decisions made reflect the
values of the community. "There
are going to be many opportunities
throughout the process for resi-
dents of Huron Perth to get in-
volved and share their ideas," said
Campbell. "The quality of the re-
sulting healthcare system will be
directly related to the extent of the
community's involvement."
"Council and Task Force mem-
bers bring many perspectives to
this study," said Janet Hook, chair
of the Study Task Force. "We do
not represent any organization or
group but are here to plan how the

The volunteer board will be
charged with developing an inte-
grated system of hospital and
health care services. It will give
immediate attention to hospital re-
structuring and will consider hos-
pital -related services such as home
care, long-term care and other sup-
port services.
