Claybird hosts first skeet shoot
The fast -paced target
shooting has returned to
the Exeter club
EXETER - The Claybird Gun Club held its first
skeet shooting tournament in over 10 years, after re-
instating a skeet range at the Hay Township Club.
Unlike trap shooting, in skeet competition, high-
speed clay targets launched from both high and low
houses, are shot at relatively close range.
Tournament organizers called the event a great
success, and noted that shooters included com-
petitors from Delaware, London, and Goderich. A
total of 29 shooters were on the line, in-
cluding two women, half a doze s, and two
juniors. They, and local c1u members competed
for donated prizes.
Resulting scores (out of 100 targets total) from
the A class were Mike Hogan's 97, followed by
Rick Blake with 96, anti Keith Hutchison with 92.
In B class, Jim Ream won with a 91, Murray Chris-
tie was second with 89, and Claybird club president
Jody Mosurinjohn in third with another 89.
In C class, Harry. Spagen won with an 86, fol-
lowed by John Ward's 86, and Ron Gardiner with
an 84. Top veteran shooter of the day was Murray
Christie with his 89 in B class. All tiles were broken
with a shootoff.
The 800 metre race for the 1980 girls was won by Missy Hayter, out in front for Stephen Cen-
tral School. She was followed closely by Karrie Consitt of Hensall (far left), and Vanessa Laye
of Exeter (centre left).

Centennials lose
to Curinga's speed
In their first match against the
team this season, the Centennials
found themselves outgunned
LONDON - The Exeter Centennials senior soccer team lost to the
Curinga team in London on Sunday 4-1.
Although the Centennials Chuck Waller opened the scoring early
in the game on a penalty shot, Curinga came to life soon after. The
London team were consistently able to get the ball to their top shoot-
ers inside the 18 yard box in front of the Exeter goal.
The first half ended with Exeter down 3-1, faced with very ag-
gressive competition.
The Centennials managed to respond to the challenge in the sec-
ond half, tightening up their defense with close man-to-man cover-
age by Pat Donnelly, John Flanagan, and Champagne Chansamone.
Curinga, however, kept Exeter out of their own net, and found one
last chance for a fourth goal midway through the half.
The Centennials don't face Curinga again until August 28, but they
will be certain to be trying for more shots on goal and quicker re-
sponse to a potent offense with its "speedy snipers".
Sunday, the Centennials host the Alianza team on the Exeter field.
