GRAND BEND - Best's ice
Cream was the latest victim of coun-
terfeit currency circulating in the
Grand Bend area. A Canadian $20
bill, serial number 56920268524
was discovered at the ice cream par-
lour last Wednesday. The Grand
Bend OPP say they have no sus-
pects at this time.
On Saturday, police say someone
smashed the driver side window of a
vehicle parked at 22 Orchard Street
in Grand Bend with a beer bottle.
The damage occurred between 2
a.m. and 11:30 p.m.
Sometime between Friday after-
noon and Saturday noon, someone
stole a 1987 Honda 500cc moto-
cross motorcycle, red, blue and
white in colour. The OPP say there
was no license on the vehicle at the
time. •

trustees can
now write

CREDITON - While Stephen
Township's police villages do have
bylaws to restrict parking, most res-
idents know they are seldom en-
forced.
However, that may all change.
Last Tuesday evening, township
council approved a bylaw to make
trustees in Crediton, Dashwood,
and Centralia municipal bylaw en-
forcement officers.
"We asked them if they wished to
do it," said township administrator
Larry Brown, and added the re-
sponse was favourable from all
trustees.
Parking tickets may now end up
on the windshields of offenders.
Current parking bylaws allow for
S20 fines, if paid immediately.
Exeter emergency expected to stay open
The latest offer from the local physicians just needs 'fine tuning'
TEXT - EXETER - For all intents and purposes, a deal with
local doctors will keep South Huron Hospital's emergency
room open.
Although a final agreement with the physicians has yet to
be signed, chief of staff Linda Steele said she was confident
the deal virtually complete. Hospital administrator Don
Currell agreed.
"It's a matter of fine tuning, a little shift here, or a little
shift there," he said.
Until the deal is in place, the emergency ward will be
open weekdays under the temporary arrangement made
with the doctors when the MedEmerg contract expired in
early May. That arrangement is less expensive than the old
contract, which the hospital board said would add $250,000
to South Huron's budget. The object of the past few weeks
negotiations has been to find an arrangement that will cost
the hospital only about $100,000 to top -up emergency
room physicians wages above OHIP fees.
How the hospital will continue to pay for such an ar-
rangement is still unclear as the health ministry has restated
its position that doctors should be paid through OHIP only,
not the hospitals.
The MedEmerg contract, under which local doctors were
paid to staff the Exeter emergency ward, depleted the re-
serve funds of the hospital within six months.
Currell said he was eager to see the details of the final
contract in the hope it can be soon ratified by the board.
"Unless we run into an impasse in the next week or two,
the emergency will remain open," he said.
