Times Advocate, 1994-06-01, Page 23Aggressive drivers targeted EXETER - On June 4, 1994, the Exeter Ontario Provincial Police will join other police services in the Province of Ontario and the Minis- try of Transportation in launching a two-week safety and awareness campaign targeting aggressive driv- ing behaviour. Considering the traditional in- crease in traffic volumes and the historic marked increase in the fre- quency of motor vehicle collisions occurring during the summer months, the timing of the campaign is appropriate, say police. In collisions investigated by the O.P.P. during the months of June, July and August, 1993, 234 people died and a further 8,743 people suf- fered injuries. Aggressive driver behaviour, which includes speed- ing, improper lane changes, follow- ing too closely and failing to yield right of way, were found to have significantly contributed to these collisions. In addition to the above traffic vi- olations, Exeter OPP officers will be observing for seat belt violations and fail to stop at stop signs. The Ontario Provincial Police say they are encouraging motorists to consciously think about their driv- ing behaviour and put safety first. WM meet in Exeter EXETER - The Women's Minis- tries was held at the Exeter Pente- costal Tabernacle May 26 at 3 p.m. Jean Triebner presided over the meeting. The group sang the hymns "Jesus Loves me", "What a Friend" and "Coming Home". The roll call was taken by Shirley Prouty, and answered by a scripture verse on "Home". The minutes and treasurer's re- port were given. The May offering went to Pennies for Penny Day. The group is sending money to mis- sionaries in Greece for their birth- day and anniversary. Dove Matheson read a poem enti- tled 'A Prayer to Clean House By'. Yvonne Reynolds gave a mes- sage on "Home". Her texts were II Cor. 5: 6-9 and Gen. Ch. 5. They sang the hymns "What a Day", "This World is not my Home", and "Home Sweet Home". The women had prayer and then prepared for a picnic pot luck sup- per. Their husbands were invited. Reynolds then gave a recitation on "What the Monkey Thinks on Evolution".
