Times Advocate, 1994-06-01, Page 3THE Blanshard Telephone being investigated by the province KIRKTON - The Blanshard Municipal Telephone System will be the fo- cus of a two month investigation by the Ontario Telephone Service Com- mission. The investigation was ordered in late April by Frances Lankin, minister of economic development and trade, after complaints from local users dur- ing the past year. On April 27. an order in council was signed by Lankin and lieutenant - governor Hal Jackman so the service commission could look into com- plaints regarding the purchase of equipment, availability of a subscribers list and fairness of services between users of the locally run company. The latter is a key issue for residents in the arca. At present there arc four exchanges serving the needs of residents in Kirkton, Granton, Schringville and Uniondale. But not all the exchanges have the same long distance privileges although they all pay the same fees. Meanwhile, officials at the phone company have been reported as saying they welcome the provincial investigation as the company has nothing to hide. Exeter break and enter committed in broad daylight EXETER - The OPP arc seeking assistance in a break and enter that occurred at 126 Huron St. west in Exeter on May 28. At around 12:40 p.m. two ,hales were ob- served in the area. One is de- scribed as wearing a black leather jacket with red lettering on the back. while driving a small, brown, four -door car. The thieves stole a 28" colour RCA tclevision,and an RCA VCR. Other investigations that day in- cluded a stolen Nokia portable hag phone from a truck on King St. in Hensall. On May 23 OPP investigated a cottage break-in at an Oakwood cottage. The cottage was entered by a group of people whom the po- hcc assume used the cottage as a party place. Liquor was stolen and consumed, and some minor damage was done. On the same day an investigation was conducted in a purse theft which occurred at the Oakwood golf course. The cast of staff, former students, and students from all grades will perforni a variety of acts, dances, songs, and stories. The entire eve- ning will be tied together by master of ceremonies, Matt Jaques, who will incorporate some stand up comedy into his introductions. Variety 94 is a two-hour celebra- tion of talent that will run for three nights, June 15 to 17. The curtain goes upp.m. and tickets, at live dollars each should be pur- chased in advance to avoid disap- pointment.
