Euchre party
planned

HENSALL - The February
meeting, of the Hensall Seniors,
was held at the Hensall United
Church last Thursday. Plans for a
euchre party were made. The party
will be March 2 at 7:30 p.m., at the
arena. The price is $2. Everyone
welcome.
Members will be going to the
birthday party, March 23. The
Swinging Seniors will entertain.
Winners of the cards were:
Margaret Mole, Martha
Rooseboom, Gertie Moir, Irene
Finlayson, Audrey Christie.
Last Wednesday evening, a joint
meeting, of the Legion Branch 468
Hensall and the ladies auxiliary
was held. Plans were finalized for
the Valentine Party, to be held at
the Queensway Nursing Home,
this past Monday. Public speaking
was held on Tuesday night.
Today the legion will be open at
I p.m., for those seniors wishing to
get together for a game of cards.
Coffee will be available.
Mel Harper, Provincial Service
Officer, will also he at the Legion.
A motion was made to donate
$100. to the Town and Country
Homemakers. A new drape for the
Legion Charter was presented to
President Larry Uyl, by the
President of the Ladies Auxiliary,
Iva Reid.
Winners of the crokinole
tournament held January 29, at the
Legion were first Pete Zwaan and
Harold (Shorty) Caldwell, 2nd
Janis Ingram and Harold Frayne,
3rd Peggy Willert and Eric Millet.
The Friendship Circle met last
Monday in the Hensall United
Church, at 1:30 p.m., with 15
members present. Mary Brintnell
chaired the meeting and opened
with a poem called "Friendly
Silence", a "Love" theme was
used throughout the meeting.
There will be no Friendship Circle
meeting, in the month of March as
members will attend the World's
Day of Prayer, which will be held
in Carmel Presbyterian Church in
March.
The Food Grains lunch will be
held in February in the United
Church. Helen McLean proposed a-
"bakeless bake sale", to raise
money for Damp Menesatung. This
was unanimously approved. The
April roll call will be answered
with some article from the wish list
of Camp Menesatung. Kay Elder
based her devotional on First
Corinthians Chapter 134 1 to 10.
Love, joy and peace from Songs of
Gospel People, was sung
accompanied by Deanna Brock.
Kay read an article on Love by
Rev. Goodman, followed by
another hymn and prayer. A video
entitled "Light of the Amazon" was
shown.
Winners of the Public Speaking
and Storytelling Contest, at Hensall
Public School, were: Senior
division, 1st Jamie Reaburn; 2nd
Joe Barty; 3rd Ryan Alexander.
Junior Division, 1st Nic Bayley;
2nd Brianne Webber; 3rd Kevin
Munn and Bcnji Reaburn.
Winners of the Storytelling
Contest were 1st Denise Ritchie
and Matthew Martin; 2nd Mandy
Slade, 3rd Fragiskatos, Fragiskatos
and Amber Caldwell.
The P.C.W. of Carmel Church,
met Monday evening, president Jan
Bakcr presided. Jan read a poem,
followed by the rrading of the
January minutes by Margaret
Varley, which were approved as
read. Cathy Bell conducted an
impressive worship service,
followed by a discussion of several
upcoming events.
The World Day of Prayer will he
held on March 4 at 2 p.m. The
speaker will he Rev. Henry Armen.

prayer. Lunch followed served by
Cathy Bell and Winnic Skca.

Pizza party at (I('
ZURICH - The Zurich Women's
Institute held their monthly meeting
on February 7 in the Hay Township
hall.
The Program Committee gave an
interesting outline on the topic of
Citizenship and Immigration.
The annual quilting day will he
held on March 7 in the Hay town-
ship Hall. Four to 5 crib quilts are
expected to he completed for the
Children's Hospital of Western On-
tario.
Women in the community are in-
vited to join members for an after-
noon of quilting and fellowship and
a potluck supper.
Valentine sweets, fruit cake and _A
refreshments were served.
