An honest to goodness Igloo was a fun New Year's Day project for Justine (left), Kyle, Molly
Dinney, and Ashley Johnston in the :Dinney's Waterloo Street back yard. Constructed, with the
help of father Bill, out of about 5.00 blocks of snow (using a plastic mold) the igloo was sturdy
enough to build a small fire inside to warm hot chocolate and toast marshmallows. With con-
tinued cold temperatures, it may be a playhouse well into February.
Benmiller Inn donates
BENMILLER - Representatives
from three Children's Charities ac-
cepted donations last Tuesday
from Benmiller Inn, proceeds from
the Duck Race held October 10.
Recipients and amounts given
were as follows: Huron County
Community Child Abuse C t rdi-
nating Committee - $800., Child
Find Huron County - $800. and the
Independent Order of Foresters
Foundation for the Prevention of
Child Abuse - $1,600. '
"The IOF Foresters Child Abusc
Prevention fund, through its net-
work of volunteers, raises funds in
local communities to help commu-
nity based groups working in the
area of child abuse prevention"
said IOF Director of public rela-
tions, Irene Tysall. Groups that re-
ceive funding are all across the
country.
Bob Morris, past chair of the
Huron County Community Child
Abuse Coordinating Committee
will find their donation helpful.
"We plan to use our funds to
rnntinuf supporting sting r.. •
grams such as "Kids on the
Block", which is a child abuse pre-
vention puppet program presented
to young children in schools." he
said.
Child Find Huron County is very
active in programs structured to lo-
cate children that have been ab-
ducted by strangers or parents, and
raise public awareness of this
growing problem. Their portion of
the proceeds will come in very
useful.
Carol Darling, of Child Find Hu-
ron County said, "Educating both
children and parents in street -
proofing is vital in Mchools today.
We have established Identification
Programs for children of all ages
such as "Kid Checks" where chil-
dren are fingerprinted and photo-
graphed."
Benmilicr Inn plans to hold fu
Lure fundraisers to continue raising
money for children. Kathy Nichol,
Innkeeper said "The response we
received from the Community and
organizations working in the field
of child abuse prevention was
overwhelming. We would like to
thank everyone, including the local
chapter of the Foresters, and the
staff at Benmillcr Inn, for their ef-
fort. Because this fundraiser was so
successful, we have decided to
The next "Ducky Derby" will be
held October 2, 1994. By expand-
ing the events, and releasing tickets
for sale earlier, Benmiller plans to
work with the same organizations
next year to make 1994s duck race
an even greater success.
