Santa Claus comes to Zurich

ZURICH - There will be a pot-
luck supper at St. Boniface Parish
Hall tonight, Dec. 1, for all those
who participated in the "Renew"
program over the years.
Dinner will begin at 6:�u pm and
those attending are asked to bring
something for the food table as well
plates and silverware for their
meals.
Knights of Columbus Grand
Knight, John Jacobs gave details at
a recent meeting of a "Holy Family
Hour" to be held this Thursday at
7:30 pm in the church.
Brother Clare Masse will receive
his honorary membership card at
the December meeting next
.Wednesday which will also be La-
dies night. Father Matthias will be
guest speaker and will be showing
slides from his recent trip which in-
cluded a visit to Poland. Also, the
Knights recently purchased new
hockey sweaters for the St. Boni-
face school team.
Coming Events
Santa Claus is coming to the Zu-
lch Co-op store this Saturday
mornmv from 10-12 pm. Children
will ha%e the opportunity to get a
free picture taken with Santa, go on
.a horse drawn wagon and have re-
freshments.

for Saturday's "Christmas In Har-
mony" presented by the Seaforth
Harmony at 2 pm in Seaforth at the

The Women's Institute is remind-
ed of their Christmas dinner being
held at Erb's Country Kitchen at
noon on Monday followed by their
meeting and a social at the Town -
'+ship hall.
Next Saturday, the Optimist Club
and Boy Scouts will be having a
.door to door grocery food drive
from 10-12 pm. All donations of
;ran -perishable food items will go
to Blessing Unlimited to help the
needy.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Blue
Water Rest Home will be holding
their Christmas meeting next Tues-
day at 7 pm in the auditorium. -New
members are wekomed.

Christmas sew special held at the
home of Rebecca Wilder were won
by Julia Jitlardy, winning a large
Santa; while a penguin jar full of
candy went to Mary -Anne Van -
stone.
Recent Trips
Several from the area went on a
bus trip to Ottawa last Thursday
and attended the swearing-in cere-
mony of Liberal MP Paul Steckle.
The young adults of the Mennon-
ite Church went on an outing to
Kitchener -Waterloo area on the
weekend.
Barb Gorman and family spent
the weekend in Toronto to help her
sister celebrate a birthday.

A good time was had by staff and
family of the Blue Water Rest
Home who held their annual Christ-
mas party last Friday at the Zurich
Community Centre.
And on Sunday the resident's
family Christmas dinner was held
at the resthome.
Congratulations to George and
Mary Haggitt on their 35th anniver-
sary last Tuesday.
John and Bern Denomme, of Zu-
rich, had their son Phil and wife
Joan visit them on the weekend to
help celebrate the parents an anni-

VARNA - The Trends Group
meets this Thursday, December 2 at
Brucefield Church from 7 to 8:30.
The Teen Set meets Sunday, De-
cember 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Blue -
water Nursing Home in Zurich for
carolling. The teens arc asked to
bring three dozen cookies to share
with the residents. They will then
return to Brucefield for refresh-
ments and fun.
Sunday, December 5 the Teen
Set have a "Silver Cup" volleyball
tournament which is a Huron -Penh
Youth Council event from 2 to 8
p.m. They meet at Brucefield
Church at 1:15 p.m. -There will be a
pot luck supper and cost is $2 per
person.
The Varna U.C.W. meet Thurs-
day, December 2 at 6 p.m. for their
Christmas potluck supper with
friends and former members wel-
come.
Sunday, December 5 will be the
Goshen church's White Gift Sunday
along with the concert. Varna's
White Gift service and concert will
be Sunday, December 12. Decem-
ber 19 is Christmas Sunday and
there will be a Christmas Eve ser-
vice in Goshen.
The Varna Angels 4-1-1 club
wound -up 4-1-1 with their Achieve-
ment Night with all members invit-
ing a parent, grandmother or sister.
Games were played. The Christ-
mas quiz game was won by Bobbi
Jean Clifton and her mother. The
tray game was won by Kim Taylor.
The junk wreath which the girls
Made was raffled off and Andrea
Asinpreis won it.
The girls and mothers . had a
qaick game of win, lose or draw.
Coffee and cold drinks were
served along with different sweets
the members each made and
brought.
