Team Ontario coming to Exeter R i ngette EXETER - Twenty-two of the best young ringeue players in the province, including Hensall's Cara Gard- ner will be part of a large program this weekend. Gardner, and the rest of Team Ontario will be taking part in theit'Jirst practice session as they prepare for the Canada Winter Games in Grande Praire Alberta in February, 1995. Team Ontario, which will arrive in Hensall early Saturday morning, will be putting on a series of shoot- ing clinics for those girls who play in the local Exeter and District Ringette Association. "Exeter ringette offered them a practice weekend and in return they give us the clinics," said Michelle Hodgert of Exeter Ringeue. The girls have a busy schedule on the weekend as they will spend Saturday morning at the Hensall Pub- lic School doing both physical and mental fitness train- ing. They'll be on the ice in Hensall at noon, again at 2 Sun. Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. the South Huron Recreation Centre, Team Ontario will take on the London Deb AA team (22 years -old -and - under). This could be quite a challenge for Team Ontario whose players are 14 to 16 years -old. When asked why Team Ontario was picked a year - and -a -half prior to the Canada Winter Games, Head Coach Bernie Cockburn said, "the players will have a perfect opportunity to gel as a team and work together, a vital attribute to any elite level team." Sunday morning Team Ontario will host a shooting clinic at the rec centre at 10:30 a.m. for petite aged players. At noon they have their own practice in Hen- sall, another one at 2 p.m. and at 3 p.m. another shoot- ing clinic for the tween-junior-belle players. - "I hope the younger kids can take time to watch them," said Hodgert. The 22 players chosen for Team Ontario were select- ed from over 500 players across the province who tried out for six Regional All-Star Teams that made up Team Ontario's farm system. Of the 500, 120 were se- lected to the six teams of which. 100 were invited.to Team Ontario tryouts.
