Local Oldtimers teams do well at Stephen tournament

There were a total of 12 teams in
the three -team division in the tour-
nament which began Friday night
and concluded with the three divi-
sion championship games on Sun-
day afternoon.
Ian Thomas was the MVP for
Casey's who topped Hensall 6-2 to
take the B' title. Fred Campbell
was Hensall's MVP. During pre-
liminary play, Hensall blanked Ca-
sey's 2-0.
The 'C' title went • to S.F. from
Stephen Township as they beat Ste-
phen Oldtimers 5-4. Matt Muller
was the MVP for S.F. and Rick
Funston was the Stephen MVP.

South Huron then beat host Mitch-
ell two straight in the semi-finals.
On Thursday, in Huron Confer-
ence action, the Panthers beat Sea -
forth and F.E. Madill two -out -of -
three. League play continues for
South Huron on Tuesday, Novem-
ber 2 when they host Goderich and
Central Huron. Yesterday the Pan-
thers were in Goderich to take on
the Vikings.
Senior hoopers now 4-1
Last Wednesday the girls basket-
ball teams travelled to Clinton
where they won two -of -three
against the host Central Huron
Redmen.
The seniors increased their Hu-
ron Conference record to 4-1 with
a big 44-22 win. Stacey Thurman
led the offence while the defence
was sparked by Candace Miller and
Heather Davies.
Julie Rooseboom and Kathy Sea-
ton each netted seven points as the
midget Panthers beat Central Hu-
ron 31-23. The juniors were beaten
26-23 as Stephanie Pearson and
Jessie Brown played well for South
Huron.
At Woodstock College Avenue
on the weekend, the junior Pan-
thers lost 34-11 to Brantford and
then dropped a very close 27-26
decision to Arthur Voaden. The
Panthers led throughout but Arthur
Voaden scored at the buzzer.
Playing well for South Huron
were Tracy Turnbull, Peggy
Brownlee and Carrie Cleave.
The girls travel to Goderich on
November 3.
