'Week of the Child' enjoyed

HENSALL - Hensall's "Week of
the Child" wrapped up in grand
form, Saturday, October 23, 1993.
A group of well over fifty children,
parents, grandparents and friends
joined to march in the Costume Pa-
rade Saturday moming.
"Catty" Hensall Fair Ambassador
(1993-94) Michelle Kinsman led
the parade with W.B. Fields.
Judges Cecil Pepper and Luanne
Phair awarded prizes as follows:
Cartoon character: Smurfy - Ke-
vin Ferris, Andrew Mattson - Genie
of the Lamp; Best group/wagon:
Jasmine and Keelan Power - as
Princess Jasmine, Genie and Abu,
Kelsey, Devon and Hilary Long -
as a "wild bunch" (dinosaur, Dracu-
la, Pirate); Clowning Around:
Amanda Mattson, Jordan Reid;
Fancy dress: Cinderella - Brittany
Pilgrim, Troy McClure - Pirate;
'Witch, ghost, devil: Witchy - Julie
Campbell, Li'l Devil - Crystal Wil-
lem; Animal, pet, other: Christy
Hartman - Lady Bug, Stacey Camp-
bell - Pumpkin.
The parade was followed by re-
freshments for all at the Communi-
ty Centre provided by the Hensall
Kinette Club.
The Erewhon Theatre players
were on hand Saturday afternoon at
the Community Centre to perform
"The Rain Forest". Some lucky lo-
cal children were rehearsed into the
performance. These included: Am-
ber Preszcator, Megan Bisback, Ja-
mie Bengough, Gina Graham,
Mindy Bell, Christy Hartman, Jes-
sica Wollis, Katie Bailey, Megan
Preszcator, and Julie Campbell.
With simple props, a strong sto-
ry -line, funny puppets and audience
participation the presentation was
both entertaining and educational.
The performance was followed by
a question and answer period with
the actors.
And some audience members
demonstrated their talents - trying
out some of the costumes and pup-
pets. The "Rain Forest" was spon-
sored by the Hensall Parks Board
and the Hensel! & District Kins-
men.
The winners of the colouring con-
test, sponsored by the Hensel!
Brownies, were announced after
the Theatre Performance ' 3-5
years: Brandon Consitt, Colleen
Willer, Nicky Bruxer; 6-7 years:
Stefan Zehetner, Ryan Campbell,
Amber -Lea Elder, 8-10 years: Joey
Randall, Carol -Anne Munn, Stacey
Butson; 11-13 years: Tammy
Clues, Lisa Rooseboom, Lisa For-
rest.
Thanks to all the businesses, or-
finizations, and individuals who
assisted in making this "Week of
The Child" a true success. "Our
Children - Our Future".
Remember all the hub -bub sur-
rounding the success of Hensall's
Yak Yid( Night in June? Well, the
Hensel! Parks Board is busy selling
tickets for the second such show.
The proceeds from the Dinner &
Show will be used to enhance Com-
munity Centre equipment and allow
for increased programs at the Cen-
tre.
There will be a dinner, catered by
Jerry Rader, with the show to fol-
low. Feature comedians are: Wayne
Flemming, Elvira Kurt, and Chris
Finn. All of these boast impressive
previous engagements and reviews.
This will be a show you won't
want to miss - Saturday, November
13, 1993. Further information Is
available from the Community
Centre and Municipal Office.
The Hensel! Horticultural Society
has announced the winners of the
society's second annual Thanksgiv-
ing Home and Business Decorating
contest.
In the home category winners
were Marg Cole, placing first, Dan
Holm, second and John and Barb
Power, third. .
In the business category: the Vil-
lage of Hensall was first, and Wil-
liams' Hair Styling was second.
• Marion McGregor placed first in
the apartment decorating category.

Poor Boy Luncheon
The last Monday of every month
is the poor boy luncheon. Twenty-
four sat down to a good meal with
lots of fellowship. Thanks to Bev
Butler, Tammy Antaya and Marion
Dearing for their help in preparing
the food.
