EXETER - Although they domi-
nated arty, the Exeter Fury fell
short in their Western Ontario Soc-
cer League game against visiting
St. George's p►llowMliy.
At the Canaleleiillield, the Fury
controlled the ball in the opening
half and despite numerous chances
could not capitalize. St. George's
held a 1-0 Lead at the half on a goal
off .a free kick which seemed to
bounced off an Exeter player.
In the second half, the Fury
r the tying goal but were
held o the scoreboard when St.
George's added a late insurance
goal.
Exeter's defense gave a strong ef-
fort despite having four regulars
out of the lineup. Pete McAllister
ftlled in as sweeper and did a good
job.
The Fury remain in fourth place
in the east division and next week
travel to Tillsonburg.

Game a little too rough?
"that all our players . display
good sportsmanship and
dedication"
Dear Editor:
This is in reference to the Girls Under 14 soccer
game between Exeter 1 and Coldstream played in
Coldstream on July 29, 1993.
Near the beginning of the game a Coldstream
layer purposely shoved into the ground, using both
hands, an Exeter player and was not penalized. The
referee was running directly towards that play and I
would find it hard to believe he didn't see it. This
was a flagrant, injury threatening play. There were
numerous missed calls for both teams during the en-
tire game. The refereeing used by Coldstream was a
complete disgrace. Missed calls normally don't
bother me but when a soccer player intentionally
tries to hurt another it's not right. At the end of this
game when the two teams were shaking hands a
1 number of Exeter girls said one of the Coldstream
players was calling them a "B...." as she went
through the line. We as coaches and parents in Exet-
er are instructed at the beginning of the year ":that
all our players display good sportsmanship and dedi-
cation. Foul language will not be tolerated at prac-
tice or games." This is a recreational sport. Winning
the game is not the priority. At the same time we
aren't out to lose either. "Our Club Policy - All the
children pay the same, they play the same, no sitting
out." We had another incident with Coldstream, car -
her in the year when they visited Exeter. One of the
Coldstream players intentionally hurt an Exeter
player after the game was over. After this situation
was resolved and the Coldstream team and parents
were leaving the field an Exeter parent heard them -
saying "They shouldn't even be in the league. They
are no-good and can't compete with us."
I truly hope this has been an isolated incident with
the Coldstream referee and the conduct of the Cold-
stream team or any other team in our league.
Regards,
Alan Oakes

However, Exeter currently leads
Clifford two -games -to -none in the

the Imperials will be in Lucan on.
Friday for an 8:30 p.m. start against
Lambeth in their first game of the
O.A.S.A. playoffs.
Thursday, the Imperials could not
put things together as they lost 9-4
to visiting Mitchell Gladiators. Af-
ter Kevin Lightfoot scored on a
Dan Heywood single in the first but
Exeter could not manage another
run until the sixth inning.
