GRAND BEND - It still seems
unbelievable to Helen Stewart and
Pred Stricken, but on Monday they
will be dancing in front of a huge
aludience at Roy Thomson Hall.
"'Every once in .a while I realize
what we're about to do ...I think of
about what we have gotten our-
selves into," said Stewart.
The dance partners auditioned in
June to be part of the Fifth Anni-
versary Royal Bank Seniors' Jubi-
lee Concerts held in Toronto.
It is one of the largest showcases
of seniors entertainment in Canada
with some 800 performers from
around Ontario.
'The pair had never heard of this
concert before, but a friend told
them about it and urged them to
send a video tape of their dance
routine to the organizers. They did.
"We sort of forgot about it after
tdlat," raid Stewart. The dancers

Ag'on. .
'!Then'abe next thing we knew,
we i ceive a phone call asking us
to' be in London in less than 24
hours furan audition,"
' Since they had ,little time to pre -
Imre before the audition, they didn't
'think it went that well.
"But they really liked the jive
number we did," said Struckett.
"They were impressed by the
amount of energy we put into it."
And the four minute routine is
adefinitely filled with a lot energy

g and cheering.

EXETER - In an effort to keep
tabs on the success of failure of the
new waste management program,
town council is being kept up to
date on the tipping fees being paid
at the town dumpsite.
Receipts for the month of July,
some $13,599, revealed that a con-
siderable amount of money was be-
ing spent to dump material there,
even with the new higher tipping
fees.
The report noted that two compa-
nies have made deposits in advance
of dumping, totalling $12,000, so
they can have a sort of line of credit
at the dump.
Monday morning, works superin-
tendent Glenn Kells confirmed that

Stewart who is 64 and Struckett,
70 have been dancing all their.,,
lives, but only got together as
dance partners four years ago.
And since word has spread about
their upcoming performance in To-
ronto, they have received more in-
vitations to be feature dancers at so-
cial functions.
They have spent the last .three
weeks preparing their jive routine.
The pair practice at least two hours
a day refining the steps.
1We also added a few extra
-moves to make it more interesting,"
Stewart said.
"But acting as choreographer is
difficult when your not a profes-
sional."
The couple will be performing on
the first day of the four day event.
It is estimated there will be some
80.acts consisting of dance, music,
comedy and skits.
Although there are some nervous
jitters, the couple are looking for-
ward to the upcoming event.
"We know we will have our own
rooting section," Stewart said.
Two bus loads of friends from
,the area are heading to the concert
in addition to family and friends
from London and Toronto.
"The great thing about this is that
it proves anything is possible at any
age," said Struckett.
He said he hopes people attend-
ing the concert will be inspired by
the abilities of the seniors perform-
ing.
"I hope people will see this con-
cert and be motivated to reach for
goals and not let age be a barrier,
he said.
Helen Stewart and Fred Struckett will be jiving at Roy Thom-
son Hall in Toronto on Monday.

much less garbage is arriving at the
dump, now that the fees have in-
creased and the bag -tag system is in
place.
"Yes, it's reduced quite a bit, I
can't tell you know just how much,"
saidKells.
Kells said residential and com-
mercial garbage collected by the
works department is down from
five loads a week to two. Private
contractor pickup also reduced, but
he still doesn't have accurate fig-
ures on the reduction.
Another sanitation contractor has
not been seen at the landfill since
the rates were increased, said Bell
at last week's meeting. She specu-
lated he may have found a cheaper
place to dump.

"Laugh and be well", said Matthew Green, an 18th
Century poet. Laughter stimulates the nervous sys-
tem and is followed by a relaxation phase that
helps relieve muscle tension and stress. Laughing
increases nerve chemicals called "patechola-
mines" which help Improve mental function.
To ease occasional constipation, try this simple remedy: Drink some hot
water when you get up In the morning. The hot water (as hot as you
would use for tea or coffee) tends to stimulate the movement of the In-
testine.
It's never too late to quit smoking. Even people in their 70s can quit
and live longer.
Research Into various fragrances is showing that certain smells can
stimulate people to spend more money shopping or even gambling!
Kind of scarey, isn't it?
