'EXETER - The Legion Chili
Cookoff returns.
Lock) teams determined to im-
prove on last year's performance, or
new teams ready to enter the fray
have only a month to perfect their
recipes.
Dave Grundy, chairman of this
year's event, expects up to 30 teams
this year for the third annual con-
test of who cooks up the best chili.
Again, all cooking must be done on
the contest grounds in the Legion
parking lot starting the moming of
September 4. By afternoon, all
pots must be perfect enough to al-
low for critical judging, both by
qualified judges and the public. •
Entertainment has been sched-
uled for the afternoon, setting a
bluegrass and country backdrop to
the odours of cooking chilis.
Any teams interested in entering
the competition are invited to call
Dave Grundy at 225-2634, or Paul
Dougherty at 235-2419.

"MUSHROOMS"
Mushrooms in (awns can be quite annoying. They are fungi that feed on
decaying matter on or in the soil. Mushrooms are very noticeable during
cool, rainy weather
Some people like to use fungicides and other mixtures to control mush-
rooms. Material applications are usually not necessary. Mushrooms
result due to cool, moist conditions. These cool, damp conditions usually
last for quite a short time and the mushrooms will eventually disintegrate
in warm dry weather.
The best method for controlling mushrooms is to cut them off during
your regular lawn mowing. It is recommended to bag clippings that con-
tain mushrooms.
