Annual Dan Bedard golf
classic is well attended

ZURICH - The 2nd annual Me-
morial of Dan Bedard Classic was
held at the Bayview golf course on
Saturday July 23. Organized by his
parents Corky and Shirley Bedard
the proceeds went to the Interfaith
Network in Dans memory. After-
ward a barbecue was held at the
Bedards summer cottage in the
Bayview subdivision.
Church News
The Youth Rally held at Ken Ga-
sho's park entitled In the Son, was a
success. The three day event was
organized by the members of the
Mennonite Church
The St. Boniface Parish is plan-
ning for their annual picnic and
pork barbecue on Sunday August 8.
Games will get tmdq vay at 3 p.m.
and supper wilt1>ers*t6ed at 5:30.
This event is being sponsored by
the Knights of Columbus.

turned home from a three and a half
week vacation visiting with her sis-
ter Roberta in Vancouver, as well

Pat and Bonnie Groot and family
spent the past 10 days camping at
Pine Lake Camp in Bayfield. Kar-

A good attendance of diners met
last Wednesday at the Community
Centre. Sally Lawton of Wingham
welcomed everyone. Marilee Ay-
otte was the 50/50 winner. A poem
"Fun at the Country Fair" was read
by Cecelia Farwell. Laurie Erb and
daughter Stephanie and Ashley
treated the diners to some vocal so-
los, piano duets, and tap and jazz
dancing.

CENTRALIA - There will be no
service at Centralia United Church
during the month of August as the
Rev. Clare and Rev. Peggy Geddes
are on holidays.
We are pleased to report that Bob
Blair is able to be out following
surgery at Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don.
We are all anxiously watching
the rebuilding of Heywood's Res-
taurant which was destroyed by fire
in April. The building is progress-
ing rapidly and hopes to open in
September.
Friday evening visitors with
Mary Kooy were Laurene Fenton
and son Fred of Stratford and on
Saturday evening I was a guest at
the Lucan Legion when about 75
people attended a retirement party
for my niece Joyce Sovereign who
is retiring after over 35 years at
hairdressing.
Gregory and Danny Caslick are
spending a few days holidays with
grandparents in Cargill.

ship's newest author will be visiting
in the area Wednesaday, August 4.
She will be reading excerpts from
her new book entitled "Poems from
a Heart in Exile" at the Bayfield
Public Library on Wednesday, Au-
gust 4 between 8 and 9 p.m. Nguy-
en's book won the Writers Award
given by the Federation of Women
Teachers Association in March of
this year. Her book is also being
sponsored by her publishers in
competition for the Governor Gen-
erals Award for Literature.
Readers will remember Nguyen
and her family arrived in Stanley
Township in 1980 sponsored by the
Varna, Goshen United Church. She
is now teaching in Toronto. Her
husband Tai works in a machine
shop and her sons Thuy and Dong
are attending University.
