Annual Dan Bedard golf classic is well attended By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH - The 2nd annual Me- morial of Dan Bedard Classic was held at the Bayview golf course on Saturday July 23. Organized by his parents Corky and Shirley Bedard the proceeds went to the Interfaith Network in Dans memory. After- ward a barbecue was held at the Bedards summer cottage in the Bayview subdivision. Church News The Youth Rally held at Ken Ga- sho's park entitled In the Son, was a success. The three day event was organized by the members of the Mennonite Church The St. Boniface Parish is plan- ning for their annual picnic and pork barbecue on Sunday August 8. Games will get tmdq vay at 3 p.m. and supper wilt1>ers*t6ed at 5:30. This event is being sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Lou and Delores Schilbe held their annual golf tournament on Sunday with a good turn out. Visitors for the weekend with Clarence and Beattie Geoffery were their daughter, Mary -Ann and her husband Jim Vanos from Bramp- ton, and son Brian Geoffery from Detroit. Jeff and Donna Smith and daugh- ter Megan of London spent the weekend with parents Ed and Doro- thy Smith. David Stark of Windsor spent a few days last week visiting his mother Therese Stark and other family and relatives. Anne Bosozoi and son Steven of San Francisco are spending their vacation with her mother Gerry Kane, while her husband Bob will join them later. Gerry Banks from London spent last week with her sister Cecile Meidinger and husband Leo. Michelle Hern and granddaughter Aimee of Granton spent Friday with her mother Doris Meyer at the Spruce Villa Apartments and helped Michelle celebrate her birth- day on July 22. The family of Doug and Rini Erb recently enjoyed spending a two week vacation in Holland visiting relatives. Violet Faulhafer of Listowel spent last week visiting with her sister Marie and Wallace Ginge- rich. Debbie Denommc along with children Meredith and Philip re- turned home from a three and a half week vacation visiting with her sis- ter Roberta in Vancouver, as well as other friends and relatives. Pat and Bonnie Groot and family spent the past 10 days camping at Pine Lake Camp in Bayfield. Kar- en and Ray Mathonia and children spent the week there with them. Peggy Geddes are on holidays. We are pleased to report that Bob Blair is able to be out following surgery at Victoria Hospital, Lon- don. We are all anxiously watching the rebuilding of Heywood's Res- taurant which was destroyed by fire in April. The building is progress- ing rapidly and hopes to open in September. Friday evening visitors with Mary Kooy were Laurene Fenton and son Fred of Stratford and on Saturday evening I was a guest at the Lucan Legion when about 75 people attended a retirement party for my niece Joyce Sovereign who is retiring after over 35 years at hairdressing. She will be reading excerpts from her new book entitled "Poems from a Heart in Exile" at the Bayfield Public Library on Wednesday, Au- gust 4 between 8 and 9 p.m. Nguy- en's book won the Writers Award given by the Federation of Women Teachers Association in March of this year. Her book is also being sponsored by her publishers in competition for the Governor Gen- erals Award for Literature. Readers will remember Nguyen and her family arrived in Stanley Township in 1980 sponsored by the Varna, Goshen United Church. She is now teaching in Toronto.
