The Senior 'A' hockey club

Wednesday, the Mohawks .have
their.annual general meeting -which
will be held at 8 p.m. at the Huron

"We seed new blood out there,"

working people."

More facilities needed
for Exeter sports teams
EXETER - With nearly 500 children in minor soccer and minor base
ball, there is a nein for more facilities.
There are two soccer pitches at the Canner's Field, one at the higll
school, two smaller ones at therm centre and another at Precious Blood
School.
South Huron Recreation Centre director Lynne Farquhar said the need to
build the second pitch at the Canner's Field was an urgent one.
"The reason we created the second one two years ago is because they
(minor soccer) had so many kids."
Minor baseball. fastbal I, -slo-pitch and softball also mean an increase in
demand of diamond time. There are four dianionds at the rec centre, plus a
smaller one behind Frayne's Store and some games are played at Precious
Blood.
"We're in bad shape for diamonds. Teams aren't getting any practice
time," said )Farquhar.
She said there is no money in the rec deparunent's•budget for building
new facilities. --
Last week there was some speculation that Syfilco was going to expand
pies plant onto land supposedly bought from neighbuuring Nabisco.
:In the July 8 minutes of the South Huron Recreation Centre and Com-
netunity Centre board, Farquhar had indicated in her report that Sylfico had
bought the property and was going to expend to take up one-third of the
main soccer pitch.
However, Terry Bourne of Nabisco said the property has not been sold
and Sid DeBoer of Syfiko's said that company has no immediate plans of
expansion.
If the main soccer pitch at the Caroler's Field did have to be moved, that
would mean an inconvenience for the South Huron District High School
which is hosting the provincial field hockey championships in November.
Original plans had been to use the main soccer pitch plus the other soc-
cer pitch there, the high school football field and a field at the rec centre.
But Farquhar said she had booked the field at Centralia College just in
case the championships can't be played at the main soccer pitch.
There has already been work done on both the football field and th'-
main soccer pitch as far as preparation for the championships a ire SAMI
Gaited.
