GRAND BEND - Senior citizens
in this village received a gift from
Grand Bend Monday night.
Following a presentation by the.
Golden Agers Club, council decid-
ed to give the group a piece of mu-
nicipal .property to be used for new
shuffleboard courts.
cl Discussion over the location of
'se the courts has continued for a
couple of months but now it ap-
pears as though the four courts will
be built between the Public Works
Department's storage area and the
pavilion.
However, the decision to allow
the courts to go there was met with
a great deal of opposition as two of
the five council members were
against the location.
"I believe we're making one more
mistake," said councilor Phil Ma-
guire. "Don't get me wrong, 1 don't
want to hold you (Golden Agers)
up but I believe they're in the
wrong place."
Both Maguire and councillor
Cam Iver indicated shat the area
chosen is already congested with
buildings and recreational fields.
Councillor Bill Uniac said the neaJ-

Ivey pointed out there seemed to
be only vague plans for the courts
and said detailed drawings were
needed.
"We've got lines on a piece of
paper but I don't see any dimen-
sions," said Ivey referring to a
sketch of -the -proposed _projecL "If
you're going to deal with this, get
the numbers on the table."
However, Ron Dann of the Gold-
en Agers told council that detailed
plans had already been drawn up
but for the moment were mis-
Dann said if tj e Courts were built
ai the club plans, it could be possi-
ble to see the provincial shuffle-
board championships come to
Grand Bend.
He told council that of the nearly
$10,000 needed to build the courts,
the club is only about $2,000 short
of the total.
Dann said the Golden Agers have
raised over $3,000, Grand Bend
Council has contributed $2,000 and
Stephen Township has added
$1.500.
Bosenquet Township did not
contribute because it felt There was
a duplication of facilities as the
Thedford Arena has indoor shuffle-
board mums.

two hits each but it wasn't enough
as the Exeter Express were doubled
10-5 by visiting London Chiefs last
week.
Trailing 6-0 heading into the top
of the third inning, the Express
came to life as they evend the dif-
ference and pulled to within three
runs.
With one out, Rivard started the
rally with a double followed by an-
other double off the bat of Dickey.
Parkinson and Rick Boon both sin-
gled to make it 6-3.
London got to starting pitcher
Marty Memer and he was replaced
by Scot Davidson who eventually
gave way to Brent O'Brien. The
visitors added four more runs in the
fifth and another in the seventh.
Exeter plated another run in the
fifth as D'Arcy Marlin had a two
out single and came home on an-
other base hit by Dave Russell. In
the eighth, Davidson and Dickey
